that I breastfeed my 3 1/2 year old daughter? We are trying to conceive another child and I will breastfeed him/her as long as possible. Why is it anyone else's business? People love to criticize me for it, but I am doing the BEST thing for my child, and it is obvious they are jealous and have their own guilt issues.

its the best kind of milk a baby can have, its not gross or weird, its natural, if u r still producing milk then ur baby should have it as long as ur body produces it, besides it saves u lots of money!! dont listen to people, they just wanna do whats they think is right, but u have breast for a reason and if u produce then feed, simple as that. i also think it brings ur baby closer to u. its like a special bond.

Why bring this up, you know that most of society has issues about the breast and therefore will say many negative comments. Are you fishing for those negative comments?

That said, I do not have a problem with extended breastfeeding, I plan to breastfeed my son at least 2 years and then after that allow him to decide when he is done, I will not force weaning upon him.

Creating questions like this will only make more problems for extended breastfeeding. If you want to make people think, try posting information about the benefits instead of the same ole, "Do you think this is wrong? Well you have problems if you do and I will do it anyways".

It is neither weird nor gross to continue to breastfeed a child even as late as 5 years old. Nature (or God, depending) designed the human body to work the way it does for a purpose.

It has been proven that breastfeeding children actually increases their intelligence and gives them nutrients that they will not recieve drinking any other type of milk. It prevents diabetes, infections, diarrhea, sickness, and helps the babies digestive system.

Although most woman stop producing milk after a time, many times their bodies do no cease because their children are still suckling. Many children still suckle past their toddler years due to a need for the added nutrients.

However, you might want to consult a doctor to see if your child might have some problems retaining nutrients from solid food.

I am going to criticize you for it, but I am in NO way jealous of you....your daughter is almost 4 and is going to be starting headstart soon i presume...are you going to stop at her school in the middle of recess...haha..I think woman should breastfeed until about 6 months. 12 months at the latest. The longer you breastfeed, the harder it is to wean. I have 4 children and i never went over 6 months with either of them. I do think it is rather disturbing for a 3 1/2 yr old to breastfeed. considering she is probably big enough to get her own juice and stuff by now. My daughter just turned 4 last month and is sooo independant....In reality, breastfeeding a almost 4 yr old is not the BEST thing you are doing....

It's not considered gross by everyone, just uneducated people. If you want to breastfeed until your child is 10 that's your choice. That seems a little odd to me, but once again, it's your choice. Your milk is better than cows milk for your child. You're doing a wonderful thing!!

It is a personal choice, but most mothers start to wean their nursing child at one year or a little older. Check with the La Leche League for their recommendations. I suppose people react rather the same way when they see a four or five year old still walking around with a pacifier, but it is, after all, your child and your decision.

because your daughter is too old to breastfeed now. Cut the apron strings. If you're trying to conceive another one, I think you should not breastfeed your daughter because then she will be jealous when the new baby comes and he or she has to nurse more frequently and take up more of your time. Besides it's a medical fact that breastfeeding inhibits ovulation. It's a form of birth control. Don't believe me? Like you said its no one Else's business. Ignore the comments or tell them the facts when someone confronts you. Personally i wouldn't be comfortable breastfeeding past 2 years of age but I'm not going to judge or criticize anyone for doing it. I think a lot of people need to learn the phrase "MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS"!!! Kudos on breastfeeding your child!

How old is too old? Will you still do it when they are 4, 5, .... At some point you need to wheen them off. From what I know most people stop before 3, but thats most people. Its not really anyone elses business but if the vast majority of people say your child is getting to old to do that, then maybe you should think about it.

Its just not done a lot, and people look at some things that are different as bad. I read somewhere that you're supposed to quit breastfeeding when the baby is ready. With my son at 9 months he just wasn't interested anymore. With my daughter it was 12 months, but I had to quit because I just wasn't producing enough anymore, and had dried up.
