This past week (8/29 to be exact) I sent in my resume with cover letter thru email via careerbuilder.com. But, after taking a good look at my resume and cover letter (after I sent it), it didn't seem "good enough". I've spent the last few days revising and want to send both in again.

Is it appropriate to re-send my resume and cover letter (via regular mail) to the same company? I'm not even sure if they got my resume the first time and they don't have a contact number for me to check.

How do I explain myself for re-sending my updated resume?

Help please!! This is a great job and I'd at least like an interview. Closing deadline is 9/15.

You know, if you sent it to careerpath rahter than to the company direction, it can't hurt to send it again, this time, directly to the company, by regular mail. Go online to get the contact information for the company, call and get the name of the hiring director, and print out the resume and cover letter on nice thick paper, and send it off. It will stand out from the rest of the emailed resumes, and if anyone notices that you sent it twice, they won't bother checking them side by side to spot discrepancies, and they'll probably use the nice paper one you sent. If you get an interview, or anyone questions it, you can explain at that point.

If you sent an unsolicited resume to a company, don't bother because your resume will end up in the big black hole. However if you were applying for a specific job opening, resend your resume with a note in your cover letter that you accidentally sent the wrong file.

Say that you are not sure if they received it, so you are resending it, or that careerbuilder.com would not let you include all the information that you thought they would need, so you are sending additional information by U.S. mail.

Do not say that what you originally sent was "not good enough". (Do not lie; just do not mention this either way.) If they like the new submission, they probably will not do the cross-referencing to find the original submission before calling you for an interview. If they do not like the new submission enough to interview you, then it does not matter anyway.

You can absolutely sent it. Find the correct address and contact information and then in your cover letter say. As I am very interested in this position, I wanted to make sure I forwarded my updated resume." It is very common.

However as someone who looks at a lot of resumes, I would assume they are going to hold them side by side and compare for a moment. But hey- it just shows you are really interested and people want to hire folks who want to WORK!

Good Luck!

If you send in another resume it will look really bad because you were too unorganized in the beginning. You might just have to bite the bullet on this job and think more thoroughly next time there is a job that important to you.
