is the vehicle registration a form that has information on it, or is it my license plate?

sorry if its a silly question, but I'm new to driving.

The vehicle registration says more information about the vehicle. The license plate says a few characters that can be checked to a database to find out more about the owner of the car.

The vehicle registration is the tag that goes on the windshield of the car, and the little card you carry with you, leave in the glove compartment or leave a copy at home.

The other important card is the insurance card. That proves you have up-to-date insurance. (If you don't you are taking a very big risk of getting arrested when you drive.)

Of course your driver's license is important too. However, you probably can own a car with only a learner's permit. (In New York State - if you are using it for work or school - while studying for the driving test.)

Good luck with your driving.

It is the copy of the paper you signed when you bought your license plates. You are required to keep it in your vehicle (not your title). It contains all the information about your vehicle so the police can check it against the plates on the car.

It's the paper they handed you when you bought your license plate and said "This is your registration, be sure to carry it in the car." That will be the first thing the officer will ask to see when you get pulled over, that and proof of insurance, and your drivers license.
