Hi all! I was hoping someone could help. I was in the pet food store this morning and a very nice man was in with his pup. It was of a breed I've never heard of before. It was a beautiful pup and about the size of a Min Pin right now at 16 weeks old.

He told me it was a Golden Doberman! I asked where he found such a dog and he told me it is a European line very rare.
Does anyone have any info on this breed? Have you seen or heard of this breed before? Is it exclusive to Europe, or is it here in the US too?
Thanks!

The gebtleman was quite factual about this beeding a true breed. Not a mix! He was from Switzerland!

The pups tail was docked! And his fur was a bit long for a Dobie but I just thought it was because it was a puppy. The pup was buff colored with very pretty white and red markings.

You know, I HAVE heard of this dog! It is a non-shedding, non-allergenic breed. (Somewhere down the line poodle was bred into it.) I have also heard that it is born potty trained!

It is definitely very rare, so if you see it again, please find out what wonderful and reputable breeder it came from. I would definitely want one of my very own!

I have heard of this - I think Shanna is correct. I heard some mumblings about it at Westminster. Something about teh prestigious Ch Sir Tripod and Ch. Illene on the World lines. After both were chosen best in show over the past few years, the owners decided to breed them together creating the "super" line merging of Tripod and Illene. It was a BIG to do over in Europe. I can't believe that one of their pups is here in the States. It was my understanding that Prince Charles actually got one of the pups and was planning (well not him personally of course) planning on petitioning to be able to show the dog. Apparently he convinced the UKC to accept the breed immediately, and the UKC is lobbying HARD to get the AKC to recognize the breed very quickly. I guess there is a dilemma over whether the dog would be part of the working or sporting, so they are actually thinking of creating a NEW category and moving dog breeds around. That would be a MAJOR change for the AKC!

I also heard that the pups were going for tens of thousands of dollars even though the breed is a cross and not recognized. But you know those British Royalty, they have more money than God, I would not be surprised if they don't fast track this one with some major cash and within the next year or so, we will be seeing the Golden Doberman in shows.

I don't know GoldenGal.. I searched and I can't find any. This maybe is pretty new? I even looked at that site that lists all the new mixes and they had nothing like that.. Maybe you are wrong about the name?

Do they crop the ears and do the tail?

Hmmm.. Weird.. It can't be a Beauceron, they leave the tail natural. I don't know if i like the idea of the longer coat tho..
I can't imagine that it's a mixed breed dog.. Europeans don't goof around with stuff like that like they do over here.. They tend to try hard to keep things clean..

Thank you Jordie0587 ! I hate those people breeding albinos! I always get thumbs down when I mention them and their disasters!

You know what! I have heard rumors about this rare new breed called "The Golden Doberman"
It is only available from a select few breeders in Europe and they are ridiculously expensive since it is so hard to mix breeds. Only a few breeders are capable of such a difficult breeding.
If it is true, and they do exist, save your pennies because they will be WELL worth the $50,000 they are selling for.
It will be the new "Designer" craze!!!

Didn't Paris Hilton just get one? Or was it Britney?

Wow that sounds really fasinating. I heard that they only sell them in Europe and they cost fortunes because they are so hard to breed. A golden and a doberman is a really cool mix. I can not find any info on the dog beacause they are very rare. They are really interesting dogs. Wow, there are so many cool mixed breeds out there...... Good luck! I hope I answerd your question.

P.S If i find any info on the dog, ill come back,.

there's no such thing, dobermans only come in four colors. black, red, blue and fawn. A fawn is sometimes buff colored more often the color of a wiem and that's the only one i could ever imgaine getting confused with golden. He got screwed..... whoever sold him that dog sold him a mutt and made up a very good story to go along with it.

EDIT:For the sake of arguement, Albino dobermans are more often a blonde color with white markings. I hate people that breed them because they are mutants, and were inbred from ONE dog in the 70s. Thats the only other thing I could think of, otherwise the guy was either making it up or got lied to.

Was it black and tan like a Doberman or was it golden?

Spell it the European way and I found that it's some dog show/award. It's the Golden Dobermann Grand Prix. Maybe he was confused and had a Dobie whose parents were winners of this show? I can't see him being a full-sized Dobie at the size you described him.

As best as I can figure it's a very prestigious European show that's in a different country every year, same as FCI World Shows, I guess (except that's worldwide).

Sounds rather interesting to me, but I really can't say. I am wondering if the breed comes in black as well.
If they are expensive as Shanna says they are, I know I'll never be able to have one. I guess I'll be sticking with the plain old Doberman Pinschers.
If you find out for sure Goldengal let me know because I'd at least love to see a picture!!!

No such breed unless it was a mutt and part Dobe and part Golden Retriever. Possibly one of the new designer mutts that are bred by money hungry people to fleece idiots out of money. After all, there is a sucker born every minute. And if it was a MinPin size dog, I have 5 minpins, 1 dobe and 1 Lab, so an 8lb dog at 16 weeks it is probably mixed with more than Dobe/Golden since both breeds should be about 15lbs at 8 weeks.

I breed full size dobies and more than likely what you seen was a FAWN min pin or full size dobie puppy. Fawn in the doby is kinda a light gold color. The fawns are rare but NOT strickley from Europe.... I think he was pulling your leg or maybe its just somthing I havent heard of yet..... It also could have been a mutt that he was portraying to be a "Rare" dog from Europe....lol..... Hope this helps..... More than likely it was a fawn dobie tho.....

Not wiith a legitimate registry, no. The only way to register a dog with a legiitimate KC is if both parents are registered and the breeder registers the litter. # Save your money, DNA breed ID tests are worthless and inaccurate.
