I just got a 2 yr old cat. Ive never had a cat before so this is all new to me. She walks around the house meowing ALL the time. Is something wrong with her or do some cats just do that? I take her to her food and water and show her to the litter box but thats not it. Is this normal?

Your cat could be in her cycle if she isn't spayed. In the cycle, female cats will meow and act like they are in pain (they might be, who knows). Some will even spot bleed.

Do you have other animals in the home? She may be reacting to their scents. (like dog, hamster etc)

She could just be sorting out her enviornment as others stated and is nervous as its a new home.

Cats are very social animals even though they are solitary. They talk, chatter and communicate all the time - females are more voca than males as a rule. I know all the different vocalizations of my cats - from the "I want food now" to "hey you are ignoring me, come on pay attention." Spend time with your cat and get to know those different meows. :)

Personally I take all my new cats and dogs to the vet for a health checkup. I also spay and neuter all my pets - I don't want to deal with babies and it makes their lives easier too.

I'd suggest a vet visit. It may simply be enviornment. If so, it'll take time and patience for your cat to trust you. A vet will help you sort it all out, plus give your cat a health checkup at the same time.

A few reasons- she may be scared- new place, new owner. Give her some major attention and love. If she doesn't want that, try taking a peice of string and playing with her. If she doesn't take to that, try giving her some new, different food...maybe she doesn't really like the kind you have bought.

If attention, food and playing are out...she might be sick. If she continues to do that, check her eyes, are they slimey, crusty, are her pupils always large and her tail puffed?

Cats are strange animals...I have a one year old who actually yells at me if I accidentally wake him. Like if he's on the couch sleeping and I'm on the phone and laugh or something- he picks up his head, gives me one long loud "moew", glares for a second, the puts his head down and falls back to sleep..

Read your cats behaviour...just watch, listen, learn. It's all trial and error with cats since they don't speak english. They all have personalities just like humans, so learn to read her behavior and you'll be fine.

when a cat enters a new surrounding they tend to meow and check for other animals. give her some time to check the place out and the meowing should slow down. my cats however meow for everything :) from attention or just because they feel like it :) some cats are just very vocal and others just need to get used to the new surrounding :)

Yes, she just wants attention. Try getting some fresh water and food out and play with her. Good luck!

Nothing is wrong with the cat. She's lonely and needs attention. PLAY WIYH HER. PET HER. She's asking for love from you.

If she has always done this then I don't beleive that she is ill Some cats are just "talkers". I love it, my cat does this and I just talk to her.

is it a female? if it is and it hasn't been spayed it might be in heat...horny.
If that's not the case it probably is needing attention. I would say it is missing the pace it came from.
