You can add almost anything as long as you don't add too much because that can affect the cooking time of the brownies and ruin the batch. (Usually a cup is safe I have found) Here are some yummy add ons that I've tried and they have been delicious:

1.) Chocolate chips (Sooooooo yummy!)

2.) Toffee bits (you can find the Heath brand near the chocolate chips)

3.) Combine both chocolate chips and the Toffee bits

4.) Swirl a jar of marshmallow fluff in the brownies after you our them into the pain. They look awesome too! If you add nuts as well then they are like Rocky Road brownies! Mmmm! (Be sure and add the nuts BEFORE you pour the mixture in to the pan.) Then cook as normal.

5.) Coconuts and walnuts (are like an Almond Joy candy bar!)

6.) Melt a bag of Kraft caramels over a double boiler and put them over the brownies once you've poured them in the pan. Then swirl them through as I described with the marshmallows .... YUM!! Then cook like normal.

7.) Crush up peppermint candies and mix them in before pouring. Minty and good!

You may have to cook the brownies a few minutes longer when you add heavy ingredients like the marshmallow or caramel. Just keep an eye on them. I've tried all of these and they are all really good!

Good luck and enjoy!! =)

Vanilla extract

Peppermint extract (will make it taste like an Andes Mint)

Strawberry or raspberry jam (about 3/4 cup for 13x9 in pan)
Pour half of the prepared brownie mix in the pan
dot with jam
Cover with rest of the prepared brownie mix
Bake according to the brownie mix directions.
Gives it a cordial like taste

Also if you're over 21 try poking the top of the baked brownie after it's cooled and pour bailey's or kahlua over it

Another yummy stir in is crushed Heath Bars.

chocolate chips or cut up chocolate bars. I tried it once with snickers cut up and it was fantastic. You can also add nuts, use butter instead of oil for a better taste, fold some peanut butter into the batter, toffee bits, chopped up caramels.

I also like to frost my brownies when they first come out of the oven with dark chocolate fudge frosting. It is important to frost while brownies are still hot so you dont have a thick layer of frosting only a thin layer of fudge sort of like a ganash (excuse my bad spelling)

Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract. If you want brownies with a real caffeine kick, add a teaspoon or so (depending how big the batch is) of instant coffee, or substitute the water in the recipe with cold coffee. If you have chocolate-covered mint candies, sprinkle them on top when you take the brownies from the oven and let them melt.
