Defeat and annihilation are two different things. Jesus took his "dominion, power, and authority" in this world/earth realm which he had stolen from Adam's treasonous actions.
Now, we resume ALL power, dominion and authority originally given to mankind ONE INDIVIDUAL at a time when we accept Jesus as Lord. It doesn't mean you have been taught to use that power and dominion over satan; or that you really believe it. That IS what Jesus came to get back for you.
Since Adam's "fall from grace", we ALL automatically have satan/the devil as our lord, so since Father God sent Jesus and Jesus paid our sin price and defeated death, hell and the grave and restored "man/woman" back into the good grace of God, we have to CHOOSE Jesus as Savior and Lord. Whew, does the devil do his best work of deceit and lies with this one!!?? His only way to keep power over you is to trick you into thinking he is stronger than you. He is a fallen angel and is exposed as a liar and thief.., accept it and accept Jesus AS YOUR PERSONAL LORD.
The devil can't stop it or make it not so... Now, we don't "fight the devil", we fight the good fight of faith! Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God! READ the Bible aloud so your ears can hear it and .., faith comes!
Confession of Jesus as Lord, reading the living written word of God and following love toward God and your neighbor is the defeat of doubt and unbelief.
God did NOT give satan power over mankind or the kingdom of God on the earth..., Adam disobeyed God and OBEYED satan after Eve was deceived and they both partook of what was forbidden. Whom we obey IS OUR LORD, and to whom we bow and serve, makes them our MASTER. Read the book of Romans!! That is exactly what Paul wrote to the Roman church. That is how Adam sold out and we became inheritors of his 'sin' and why we need a Savior! What are you preaching if not that? Why ask Jesus to BE your Savior and Lord if this isn't true? It IS TRUE.

Jesus gave up the Ghost and broke the connection He
had with God, the Christ aspect of the man Jesus. it was done because it was written. it is God's lesson to not listen to what man or woman says He says to do and instead turn to God in the Spirit and be led by the Spirit. no body helped Jesus because it was written what would happen to Him so they let it unfold.

Jesus may have walked/risen away and disappeared into the mystic but He did so without the Christ or Holy Spirit and the Spirit was to then suffer out there in time because the Spirit in a vessel does not understand a carnal way and would be very abused, lost and considered weird in time. so for the man Jesus the journey became carnal and materialistic, as uncomfortable as that may be for so many to believe it is a Truth. so in a sense you are fighting the enemy those choices created.

all these religions that battle one another and not a one represents the message relayed from Jesus Christ prior to the seperation of the two.

Jesus defeated satan in a way that only He could accomplish. Because of His victory , at a time of Jesus' choosing, satan and death will cease to exist. We, out of honor to Jesus, fight the enemy, who is all- to -aware that he has been defeated by our Lord. He can't harm Jesus, so his people are the next best thing. Satan's days are numbered and only the perfect Lord was able to bring this to be.

Jesus didn't defeat the enemy by dying, He defeated the enemy by not falling to the enemy's temptations and by arising from the dead. That is something seldom taught today, Jesus didn't only die for us, but He lived a perfect life for us because we couldn't and now His righteousness is imputed to us. To God alone all the Glory!

There are two enemies: death and damnation. Christ's atonement was meant to break the hold that they both have on us. We will all be resurrected some day, which will complete the victory over death. The victory over sin, however, is in our hands to complete.

Satan isn't fighting God anymore. He gave up that fight when Christ beat him here on Earth. Now Satan is fighting all of us. Rather than taking humanity in a sweep, he's waging individual campaigns against each of our souls.

None of that is the answer to your question, though. The answer to the question "why are we fighting" is different for everyone. Why are you fighting?

He defeated death. Your biggest enemy is self. You will always war with self as long as you walk around in this flesh.

Jesus didn't suffer, die, and resurrect do we wouldn't have to undergo those things, rather, Jesus did went through all that in order to EMPOWER us through the Holy Spirit to suffer, die and resurrect with him. Jesus showed us how (he is our example) to put our full faith and trust in God The Father, in order not to fear death and suffering, becuase there is the great hope of the resurrection which is infinitely greater than all worldy trials and tribulations.
