I was just wondering what part food plays in your life. As a chef (or cook) do you get the real joy from preparing food for others, than for yourself ? Of course I suppose... How do you like preparing food for yourself then? Is it something totally different, you just go and have some sandwitch or hot dog or just some salad, or you prefer going to a restaurant ?
It's because while preparing food for myself at home, I absorb the different smells of the flavours, spices, I get used to seeing the food, experiencing it in my hand, and my brain sort of gets all these messages and I feel full after I only PREPARED my meal. So I don't enjoy eating it anymore with such intensity after I had prepared it MYSELF ! This is something really unfortunate. Is it the case with you too???
P.S. Please indicate whether you are a professional chef or a cook like me. Out of curiousity... :)

You sound a lot like me. I love cooking, I love reading about food, food history, trends, you name it. And after cooking all day and night, wouldn't touch a prime rib or steak. Mac & cheese or Spaghettios was a perfectly good dinner for me. I guess in my case I was tired of seeing the same things over and over and over during a shift, and then too tired at night to want to cook more. I like cooking at home better now that it's not my career.
Um, I was a professional head cook. (No degree)

Food plays a huge part in my life! I love to cook and found myself a man that also loves it! Plus, of course, we both love to eat! Eating dinner, for us, is an experience to be savored - even after a busy day. We love trying new things and experimenting with tastes and textures. We can be kinda picky when we go out to dinner - we tend to go out usually for sushi, or tapas, or such. I love the holidays, especially since we have the largest space, because the families all come here and I get to cook. There is nothing I love more than making a huge spread for everyone...I will plan it out for weeks ahead of time! And it HAS to be an experience - I get a little crazy with the presentation sometimes, but everyone is always blown away. I appreciate great food, even if someone else prepares it, but I definitely prefer to make it myself!
I have never cooked professionally, although I've had a few offers! Just a girl that loves food and truly enjoys the experience of growing it, buying it, cooking it, and serving it!

I feel every person will get that method eventlualy approximately cooking. Consider it versus different jobs. If your a hair cloth wardrobe, you don't do eight hours at paintings with hair to come back dwelling and need to reduce your familys hair each and every night time. The equal is going for an accountant, or close to every other career. Being a cook dinner isn't as you assert, throwing matters in a pot and hoping for the quality. You need to know the way matters paintings in combination, praise or distinction every different. I have had occasions while I move to a peers condominium and say I suppose like cooking. They have advised me, well good fortune discovering some thing in there. half-hour later I stroll out, and they're surprised that what I am serving got here out in their kitchen. It is an artwork and a ardour. BUT... then you definitely flip round and are available dwelling and also you need to have foods for the household. People count on all of it to be well, and we count on it to be well as good. On my off occasions I have a tendency to be roughest on myself. I have made a dish that I could instead no longer serve that different humans simply rave approximately, announcing it's the quality I have ever made. Who is aware of.... Enough rambling... I quite am looking to present a few aid. When I get that method, I customarily uncover if I return to the fundamentals I get the ardour again. Those dishes that I discovered from Mom, or my Honey (grandmother). They job my memory of the affection and ardour that those powerful females placed into their meals, and it is helping me get again the ardour for my cooking. Good Luck and Good Cooking!

I am a cook just like you. The joy I get out of cooking is twofold. First, I love when others enjoy the meals I work so hard to prepare. Secon, I love the creativity of it as well as experimenting. Not everything I make is good. That doesn;t bother me because I'm not afraid to try anything. I don't generally eat the same food I make for my family. I like to eat low fat and low sodium, so I usually make something different for myself.

I used to work in a restaurant as a line cook and I found that I would eat more if i cooked for myself at work but not at home. if i didn't eat at work i usually would eat at home or i would go out to eat.
Both of my parents are papered chefs and my dad loves to cook for the family and had no problems eating with us. My mother on the other hand she hated cooking at home for me (my parents are divorced since i was very young). At home with my mom I did most of the cooking, but if she had a dinner party that was a different story...she LOVES cooking for parties.
My husband also is a line cook and he loves cooking for our family. He hates the clean up so usually me or the kid cleans up but he loves cooking and coming up with new recipes
My question to you is if you pick at the food while your cooking...if you do that also will make you seem full even if you only had a couple of bites.
I hope that this helps!!!!

I have cooked for a living. I clasify myself as a talented amateur. I am on the level of obsesed with food and cooking. I like to cook for myself as well as others.
What I prepare depends on my mood, what foods I have on hand and how much energy I have.
No matter how full I am, I can allways think and talk about food and cooking.
