1] rinse mouth every two hours with luke warm water and a little salt.
2] drink a LOT of water - about 1/2 gallon a day
3] use dry mouth toothpaste - Biotene is great, and you can get it at CVS. Use a very soft toothpaste, and 'gentle' waxed
floss
4] get the sugarless gum at health stores - Spry - has xylitol in it, works well.
5] ask doctor for a prescription for viscous lidocaine - mix it half and half with Maalox or Mylanta, swish and spit [ swallow if throat is also affected ].
DON'TS:
a[ hard candy = makes tiny nicks in sore tissue
b] citrus foods while mouth is sore
c] very hot or very cold temp foods
d] spicy foods
e] alcohol
Finished chemo in Mar 05 - no one told me this stuff
