I discipline my children fairly. Their punishments are similar in severity, but are not always the same punishment. It has nothing to do with the fact that one of my children is a girl and the other a boy, but more so their personalities.

Time outs do not work for my daughter. It is not really a punishment for her to have to sit still and be quiet for a period of time. However, time outs for my son is near torture you would think by the way he acts about it. He is always on the move, and having to sit still and be quiet for seven minutes IS definitely punishment for him. What my daughter does not like is having priveleges taken away, such as electronic time (which is already limited in our house).

As they get older, fining them for their misbehavior is getting pretty effective-more so than anything else. That works for BOTH of them.

I think I do. Timeouts first, spankings are only for hitting or biting. I take away privileges from my 5 yr old son, which is more effective than anything, but my daughter is only 2 and that won't work yet. She doesn't have any.

;-) Good luck with yours!

i'm not a parent but i would like to think that one day when i am i will treat them the same however me and my bf have talked about this and i don't think he agrees lol. i asked what would he do if he caught his daughter in bed with a guy not having sex but still laying in bed making out and he said he would flip out at the guy because he knows how guys are and when i ask if he would do that if it was his son with a girl in his bed and he said he would flip out at his son....so he is saying no matter what it's the guy's fault. he also stated that girls are harder to punish i don't really understand why he feels that way but i guess it's becaue he is a guy....i don't know lol....

Their issues are different, so I would say it isn't the same but it is similar. My son would not like to lose his xbox however staying in under restriction wouldn't bother him to much, but my daughter would be affected by losing her phone and restriction is "devastating" to her. I handle the problems according to the degree of trouble and the child.
