A female deacon is mentioned in the bible. The same Apostle Paul that people so often love to quote saying women should be silent in the church, worked closely with Pricilla who held high status in the early church. Paul also wrote in Ephesisan that in the body of Christ there is no male or female, bond or free.

Why shouldn't she? Women are integral to the vast majority of churches in existence. They are what keep the churches going because believe it or not studies indicate that Women are a pinch more religious than men and therefore attend the church far more often than men. Since we Women make up most of the bodies in the church and since we do most of the work in the church, it only makes sense that we also make up the leadership of the church. There's nothing in our biology that would preclude us from this service to the church as well.

Peace,
Jenn

I believe a woman can be a deaconess however in that capacity she would be restricted to serving the ladies of the church and not to address the church as a whole as she must remain silent in the church. The Lord will not permit a woman to usurp any authority over the man. There is certainly a place in the church for a woman to minister to other women.
