24/7 365 Days a year! stay at home mommy

My daughter is 4 months old and exclusively breastfed. That alone cuts a huge cost, as we don't pay for formula or baby food (at least not yet). I also stay home, so no daycare. Diapers cost us about $60 a month, we probably spend $10 extra on food since I eat more b/c of the breastfeeding, and maybe $50 on toys/clothes/random expenses for the baby. So $120 a month, or roughly $30 a week. But it's only going to get more expensive from here....

Depends a lot on age, but I would 'estimate' $70 per week per kid not including health insurance or medical until they are teenagers. The food budget skyrockets after that. This is like dead-bottom budget and does not include such things as beds or furniture.

For infants, it's formula and diapers and many sizes of clothing. For toddlers, it's still a lot of clothing sizes to go through. After they are out of toddler age, they are actually relatively cheap for day-to-day stuff.

You can cut many of these costs by buying clothing at garage sales and Salvation Army/Goodwill stores for things that they will beat up anyway. Food shop only sale items and seasonal and buy more nutritious food (popcorn you pop vs. chips or frozen orange juice vs containers). Understand that buying clubs like Costco don't save you money if you buy stuff you wouldn't normally buy in quantities you wouldn't normally store, but they can be useful.

Interesting question and a good one (if you are planning to start a family), it is always best, in any case to know what you are getting in to - financially, emotionally and other.

Dollar amounts will vary depending on what state you live in. This is my approximate estimation and experience.

Food/Groceries - $70 (this is one person so timex it by you, your spouse etc)
Eating out - $25
Daycare - $150
Medicine (if sick) - $25 (varies if insurance, taken to Dr. etc)
B-Day gifts - $15 (I average this out - if more friends & More parties more $$)
Gas driving to school - $2.85 (avg 1 gal a week)
Diapers - (no idea) - but 2-3 pks a week guess $40

I can be missing more, but this should get one thinking about expenditures.

well, just for food for 3 under 5, it's around $200.
Diapers $20/week.

All in all, I would say $250-300 per week, that's without bills.

I'm a stay at home mom, or else it would cost another $450/week for daycare.

BANK!!! Kids are not cheap! And that is the bad thing about it all!! I probably spend about 100 easy for no reason at all really on my kids, and little things. If they need big things that is something different, and that is not including food! Housing, bills, and so on...
