FM = Frequency Modulation, which is a transmission method where a radio signal is controlled by varying the frequency (cycles per second) of a carrier wave. When you tune your FM radio to a station, such as 95.9, your radio will pick up that frequency, and tiny modulations in the frequency (variations of frequencies slightly above and below 95.9) will be interpreted as analog sound by your radio.
