i don't use liners. I just spray the pan with non-stick cooking spray. happy baking:)

No, you don't have to use cupcake liners in order to make blueberry muffins. Just use your cupcake pans, being sure to generously grease each cupcake section of the pan. Fill the cup 3/4 full for a nice full crown on your blueberry muffins. If the muffins stick (because of the blueberries) go around the inside edge of each cupcake cup. Muffins should come right out. If you have a muffin pan (looks like a cookie sheet, but has "cups" pressed into it), you spray cooking spray into the bottom of each cup. If your muffin pan has more "cups" than you need, either double the recipe or put water in the unfilled "cups". The benefit of using the paper/metal muffin pan liners is to make clean up more easy and to make them more sanitary for a party. That way, you are touching the paper and not the actual muffin or cupcake when you give it to someone.

Greasing the tins will work, but if you do this and notice that your muffins do not raise as you had hoped, the grease can make them slide back down as they come up, it won't hurt anything, just they will not have the big impressive crowns
Also, be sure to let them cool 5-10 minutes before taking them out of the tin, or they will disintegrate,
****extra tip, if you are making these from scratch, fill tin 1/2 top with berrys, then fill rest of way (not overfull) and top again with berrys, gently pushing them down.
This is nice for when the muffins are for guests, as it keeps your batter from turning green, and keeps the berrys well distributed.

No, just butter the inside of the baking tin. I found rum flavouring (for a cake I made on the weekend) was very oily and actually contained rum oil, so you could even use an oily food flavouring like that to make the baking tin greasy.
