There was a maget looking worm in my pancake mix and the box was kept in the refrigerator. How do you think it got in there? The box was half gone and I'm afraid maybe their were others that I unknowling ate (cry and grossed out). Do you think it came like that from the manufacturer which is a top brand I won't mention? Help - I'm so grossed out I love pancakes but probably will never eat them again.

There's a certain percentage of bugs in just about every food you buy. There's no way to have huge amounts of food in warehouses and not have that happen. However, in this case, bugs could have gotten in your pancake mix after you got it home and it's just now that the bugs are mature enough for you to see.

If I were you, I'd throw out the box and go get a different brand. Or, better yet, get the pre-made pancakes or waffles in the freezer section. There's a good bet you won't see anymore bugs!

The critter's egg was probably there all along, and hatched during its shelf time, grew a bit, and then died when you refrigerated the box.

This is, unfortunately, not usual in mixes containing flour. Sifting makes sense--it'll catch stuff like this.

The good news is, if you or anybody else ate parts, no harm done unless you're immuno-suppressed. Our bodies handle this kind of challenge, easy.

The solution is to make your own pancakes, fresh each batch. It's not that hard. Allrecipes.com can help you find an easy one.

Just chuck the remaining mix. That happens all the time. Once, I found some in my Team Cheerios (late 90s).

it's the larvae of a pantry moth... it's a pain to find one, but no one dies from accidently eating one....

since it was in the fridge, it was probably dead anyways.... keeping things in the fridge is a good idea, but when you run out of room, go for rubbermaid type containers in the pantry... watch out for dog/cat food as they tend to be how they get into your house to start with.....
