I want to know how they should uphold themselves here in Y/A R&S. Is it right to show anger and animosity toward another's belief? Is it right for Christian's to manipulate other's to be cruel to another? People that proclaim they are Christian's but yet behave like this in a open forum is sending what kind of message to seeker's and non believer's? Christian's that are real lover's of Jesus, what would your advice be to your brother's and sister's that behave Un-Christ like.
I thought a seeker could find a religion faith group here, but I don't think so! Non-believer's sure must come here in R&S for good laughs.
I have to add that I am no member of any church, but have been reading and studying the Bible on my own. I am not Baptized yet. I did make up my mind to join a Bible Study. I am a learner still in the flesh and trying to improve myself.

Ol Doc, what does that mean?

Nanae, Oh so you telling me that Baptized Christian's should act like non-baptized Christian's? Than what is the sense of proclaiming to be a Christian? I guess that is why John Lennon made that song "Imagine".

William D, I shall remember that word ignorance. That is the correct word to use.

As for those that say "Who is me to judge?" What I say to you is, "I don't judge no one. People judge themselves on how they portray who they are to other's." I put judgment upon myself by how I treat other's in love and respect. So do everyone else. We judge ourselves by our actions and overflow that comes from our heart.

Kal, very good point. I admit I at times lack self-control. In showing anger by being argumentative. Oh God, help me in this weakness. Amen.

There are two types of Christian. True Christians and False Christians.

True Christians are those that considered themselves the sheep. They follow all Christ's teachings and apply them in their daily lives. 1) They love God w/all their hearts, souls, minds. 2) They love their neighbors as themelves and they even have to love their ememies. (Mark 12:30; Luke 10:27; Deut 6:4-9) They also keep doing what Christ commanded them to do to preach the good news of God's kingdom. (Matt. 24:14; 28:19, 20) They are happy to do all the things that they were commanded to do. 1 John 5:3 says: "For this is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome." These are just only a few basic things that true Christians must act upon.

False Christians are those that follow men's doctrines over God's word the Bible. 1) Believe Jesus is the God himself. 2) Believe they are saved once saved. 3) Believe having faith alone that's all they need (no actions involve or willing to change themselves to fit God's requirements). 4) Once accepted Jesus into their lives, be baptized and ok to continue having immoral lifestyle with the opposite sex before marry (or do as many gals & guys as they can before making commitment in marriage). 5) Pick a certain scripture from the Bible and hang on to it disregard the rest of the Bible. 6) Believe just being good citizens without a need of doing God's will, are acceptable to God. 7) Depend on earthly kings or governments to provide for their futures (but do not put trust in God's government Dan. 2:44). 8) Believe they could become angels after death, etc... These things are not what the True Christians suppose to practice or even thinking about them and it is a waste of time to continue life this way. Only 144,000 (little flock) out of the entire human race will get to heaven to be co-rulers with Jesus Christ. The rest of mankind (the great crowd) will be living on earth. That is a fact; read Revelation in your bible.

Being true Christians are like the sheep that follow their sheperd wherever he goes. Listening and doing what God requires of us is what True Christians are ought to do. No doubt in the days of Noah before the flood; I'm sure many people think if they were being (just) good citizens God will save them from calamities. Well, many, many (just) good people got swept away by the currents of the flood and they died. Only eight souls were saved because they listened and did exactly what God told them to do.

True Christians = sheep
False Christians = goats

Matt 7:21-23  “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22 Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ 23 And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness."

And read Matt 7:15-23; 25:31-46.

We are in the same boat. I read the bible a lot too, and I don't want to be belong in any churches. I use to be catholic but after all experiences with other catholic I thought they are (those the one I had bad experiences which are so many) just a show off and just following without really understanding. I tried christian church - I found out that they are not far from catholic people as far as attitude.

I know we need people to support us in times of need - but If I can't find true human with true human heart - then I'll be by myself. I believe in God though, I believe that he was once was on earth and among us (well, them in the past years), but now, God is only in the Bible that if people will not explore it, they will not know him. Just like an accountant - if you will not study to become an accountant you will never become one. You can pray all you want - it will never happen. You have to do something to it to make it happen - you can only hope.

Clothing ourselves with the new personality found in Colossians 3:12:17. Then we will be able to do as 1 Peter 3:15 says, "always ready to make a defense before everyone that demands of you a reason for the hope in you, but doing so together with a mild temper and deep respect."

This is how we know.

I recall the words of a song I heard in church as a child (may be biblical but maybe not)...the most frequent refrain went something like this...

"They'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love, yes, they'll know we are Christians by our love."

In Galatians, Paul talks about the "fruits of the spirit": love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Paul goes on to say:
"Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the ninful nature with its passions and desires. Sinc ewe live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Sounds like the fruits are pretty good way of knowing who does and does not share the same love and faith. I would never presume to judge what is between another person and God...it is his responsibility to decide the ultimate penalty for someone's failure to follow his instructions (and to decide the reward for those that do). ...but when it comes time to decide (judge) whether someone else's words have any meaning for me, I look for the fruits and if I don't see them, I don't pay attention to those people.

I know what you mean but not all Christians are the same. I am Catholic and can't understand how in the past (Inquisition times, bloody Mary etc) they killed and tortured people from different religions in the name of God. That is totally opposite from what Jesus taught us to do. To love our enemies because what regard is there if we only love those who love us. He taught us about forgiveness and showed us that sinners can become saints. Did He hate those who humiliated Him and killed Him? No, so whoever calls himself a Christian, Catholic or follower of Jesus should really follow or try to follow his actions and stop hating and attacking other religions. Let's respect every body's belief, nobody can force a religion on someone, it should come through faith.

Why do Christians feel the need to oust other members of their religion as "not true Christians" if they do something unpalatable? If a killer declares himself an atheist, is it justifiable for me to say "a true atheist would never kill, so the killer can't really be an atheist"?

On what authority are you declaring another Christian to be not a "true Christian"?

For those that say "you will know them by their fruit" I assume you are referring to their sin. In which case, how much sin do you have to commit to be considered a false Christian, rather than a sinning true Christian? If someone lies once, are they still a true Christian? Twice? A hundred times? A million? If you can declare one "sinner" a true Christian and another not a true Christian, you must have some standard to measure them against with a cut off point. What is that point?

I agree with you Lamb. Good for you.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you used the phrase "proclaim they are Christian." Didn't God say in the parable to the people who prophesied in his name but did not truly follow him, I never knew you?

But remember, some of the Christians have very little information about who God is and what God says. There are some churches, for example, that don't believe in the Holy Spirit, others don't preach from the Bible, others don't have classes. So there is a lot of ignorance in the church.

I'm not religious. I don't believe in Jesus Christ. But I'm not a bad person for this. I try to be kind, and I try my best to sympathize with other people and live a good life. I don't need the bible or religion to behave this way.

This is why I get annoyed with religious people. Many (not necessary you personally) judge non-believers, atheists and agnostics with harsh judgement and disdain. There is an elitism which permeates the Christian community; a sort of smugness.

I don't need to believe in Jesus Christ to know that judging before knowing all the facts is wrong. I also know that the world is filled with all different kinds of people who have a right to live their lives as they please. As long as they are not hurting anyone (killing for instance) then I have NO business telling them how to live their life or afterlife if there be one.

My advice to religious people. Keep your noses in your "holy books"and out of everyone's business.

Jesus Christ himself was not always nice when it came to defending his beliefs. He threw the money changers out of the temple, and he was not nice about it. He also condemned the Pharisees and their traditions of men. Therefore you may continue to read some strong condemnations when certain ones that call themselves Christians uphold traditions that are not bibical.
