Why is it that republican and religious and secular conservatives continue make family values an election issue. The issue of family values and morality was ONE of the hallmark reasons for the Republican take-over of congress and it was also used as a theme during Bush’s first run for office.

There are many, many, many more. I know that I am going to be accused of being repub-coserv-basher. I am not, I know the democrats have just as many scandals if not more. However, I think that the whole PLATFORM OF CONSERVATIVE FAMILY VALUES IS A DISINGENIOUS strategy to rally votes and to swing elections. THIS LIST DEMONSTRATES THE FACT THAT NO ONE PRACTICES WHAT THEY PREACH!!!
I also believe that we are all human and everyone makes mistakes, but it is VERY HYPOCRITICAL to impose ideas that these “cultural-icons” don’t keep!
(((What are your thoughts???)))))))

It's 'Do as I say, not as I do'.

The GOP has always pandered to religious people, but they made a special effort starting with the 1980 election and Ronald Reagan. In the previous election Christians had voted Democratic, for Jimmy Carter, because he was a sincere Christian himself and his sister was a famous evangelist.

In 1980 the GOP corrupted religious leaders like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson to conflate politics and religion and tell their flock that it was their religious duty to vote for Reagan.

They used the abortion issue to do this. They 'recast' the issue as we know it today just to win that election. Cathlics had always been anti-abortion but Protestant Christians never agreed on where life begins, but for this election Christian leaders drove a stake into the ground by declaring that life begins at fertilization. Reagan promised to pass a constitutional amendment banning abortion.

From that point on, a wide swath of Christians have truly believed that the Republicans were the party endorsed by God. Even though the GOP has really done very little for them besides lip-service, and the -real- agenda of the GOP is quite different.

'Family values' is one of those brilliant political concepts, a term deliberately designed to be vague and ambiguous. Everyone has a different idea of what it means, but each Christian who hears a Republican candidate use the term thinks the candidate means what he means himself. At the 1992 GOP convention, Barbara Bush and Pat Buchanan both made speeches about 'family values' back-to-back and you could see that it meant something completely different to each of them. This was one of the biggest mistakes the Repubs made in that election.

If you REALLY believed in -family values- you'd allow parents to have parental leave. You'd support public education and want to help with kids' healthcare. You'd want underprivileged mothers to have prenatal care, and underprivileged children to get vaccinated. The Repubs are against ALL these things!

And what's really funny is that whenever an especially homophobic Republican leader is found in bed with a young boy, Republicans say to liberals 'Hey, why are you suddenly against homosexuality?' 8^)

Well, at least the Repubs and Conservative Right, do expose and chastise their own, while the Liberal Dems., make every effort to cover up and continue to endorse their offenders...lets consider "President" Bill Clinton, having oral sex with a young woman under the executive desk in the "sacred" oval office, and lieing continually about it! Not even a slap on the wrist...Shameful!!!

First you listed numerous people without any scandal- getting divorced is not a scandal. I think the divorce rate is ridiculous and people need to try harder to make things work yet I am divorced from a cheating spouse who had no desire to try and work things out- Hypocritical??? No.
Try listing all the democrats and all their scandals and then maybe we can take you seriously and think maybe you are just after the truth not cheap political shots.
