A 100 year anniversary gun from Colt will be very pricey, if it is ever made. Remember, in 2008, we have an election and if the news media can continue to push it, I am afraid many of our gun rights will be pushed to the test by the left wing. If you want a 1911, then you may want to consider getting one now. I currently have two, one that travelled on the hip of a 2nd Lt through France into Germany in WWII and a Kimber that has a few modifications to it.

A centenial edition 1911, an interesting idea. Fancy grips, special engraving, a trick finish--and probably only twice what it would cost you to get it duplicated on your own. One thing about special editions, unless you're going to put them away and never shoot them why bother, and even then if they produce a bunch of them they're often not worth any more than the same firearm without the special edition trappings. If you want a 1911 buy it now, their not going to change the design.

Is it worth waiting till 2011 to buy a high end 1911?
You know the 100th year anniversiry editions are gonna be sweet!
-----------------
Sorry, but I don't quite get the question.
If it's an anniversary edition that you want, I'd say yeppers, wait. Chances are you won't be finding too many 100th anniversary 1911's before that so you won't have any choice.
If it's a shooting gun that you want, you'd rather wait that long....for what, a small medallion? A bit of engraving? A pistol that you won't want to shoot?
You got me stumped, pardner ;)

I think this calls for 2 1911's. One nice one now as a shooter and one later to get that special 2011 model as a collectors piece.

Buy one now, then in 2011 sell that one and buy the 100 year model. Who knows, they could ban guns by 2011 and then you don't be able to get one.... I would rather have a regular one than miss my chance to have one waiting for something that might be outlawed by then.
