TREAT ME KINDLY, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
DO NOT BREAK MY SPIRIT with a stick, for although I should lick your hand between blows, your patience & understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
SPEAK TO ME OFTEN,for your voice is the world's sweetest music,as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ears.
WHEN IT IS COLD & WET,please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal,no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privledge of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.Though had you no home,I would rather follow you through ice & snow than rest upon the sofest pillow in the warmest home in the land, for you are my god & I am your devoted worshipper.
KEEP MY PAN FILLED WITH FRESH WATER, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.

Feed me clean food so that I may stay well to romp & play & do bidding,to walkby your side, & stand ready willing & able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.

AND BELOVED MASTER, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight,do not turn me away from you.Rather, hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant the merciful boon of eternal rest.....and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I draw, my fate was every safest in your hands.

I cry each time I read this. Animals ask so little, but give so much in return.

Those who have no feelings or just see them as animals and not companions will get nothing from it. Those like myself are filled with the need to go and cuddle their babies and show them how much you love them.

Please excuse me.I have 4 wonderful companions who need a little time and loving.

It would not be your forehead hurting from this. Your thinking of aliens with an eye in the forehead. That isn't what a third eye is. It opens up our senses to patterns around us. It’s used by seers to make connections and answer questions. It’s used by energy workers to feel the energy and then manipulate that energy. It’s part of empathy where a person can touch and feel the emotions of others. To use the Third Eye to learn how to sense and visually interpret energy around us. Some people see an “aura” or “light”. To understand this you should talk to a Taoist who practices this not here. Once opened it’s a very powerful ability, powerful enough that it literally can drive people insane if not understood, accepted or developed correctly. So it isn't something to just say hey I think I'll use my third eye. It takes time, dedication and direction.

Wow! I read that years ago, & had forgotten it 'til now. Thank you for posting it. It truly represents the spirit of a dog. I hope it will affect some attitudes. I'd suggest you also put it in Entertainment&Music>Polls&Surveys.

I hope it makes people think twice about leaving their dogs outside alone day and night.

Shanna's link to the poem brought tears to my eyes.

it gave me chills!!!!!!!!!!! thank you for posting this wonderful poem.

i like this one too. IF TEARS COULD BUILD A STAIRWAY, AND HEARTBREAK MAKE A LANE, I'D WALK THE PATH TO HEAVEN AND BRING YOU BACK AGAIN.

i found it on a website after my wolves passed away. now it's hanging on the wall with their pictures. but i honestly don't know if it will get through to some of the people on here.

I'd read this many years ago, printed it out and put it in my adopters packet. But I'd lost it and couldn't remember how it began.

Thank you so much for posting this -- I'm printing it out right now for my files.

xoxo

I doubt it....some people are just plain stupid and cruel when it comes to animals. I am saving it to hang on my wall. Thanks for this!!

Thanks for the site. Going now to get it.

Ohhhh...SHANNA...I am crying now. That is SO sad. My heart is aching for all the homeless and unwanted puppies and kittens. Crying now, gotta go.
