a backpack, some pencils, lunch, anything else else he needs should be listed on a school supply list that he'll receive
then again some schools provide everything for each child

Well they always say 12 #2 pencils, 4 glue sticks.

But my kids are now in 1st and 3rd grade and this is what I have found they really need.

Of course a backpack, lunchbox if taking cold lunch.

3 or 4 pencils
scissors
24 pack crayons
erasers
markers
colored pencils - they do not need this my kids just like them
1 glue stick - I have found the blue fat Elmer's glue stick works
better than the small white ones.
1 pee chee
1 wide ruled spiral notebook

unless the teacher ask for more. If I send 12 pencils for my kids that is too many and they end up giving them away.
I will send more pencils and glue sticks as needed throughout the year.
My 3rd grader needed a few more things this year but the above list is what I sent my 1st grader with.

Oh I did for get to add 1 or 2 pencil boxes to hold all the stuff.

This varies by school and even by teacher. Your child will definitely need a backpack and lunch or lunch money. He may also need snack. Some teachers send out long lists of required stuff before the first day of school, some hand out lists on the first day of school, and some just provide everything your child needs. If you haven't received a list of required supplies, you may not need any. Call the school to make sure instead of spending a lot of unnecessary money on things that the school will provide (you can also ask about snack).

Have you been to the schools Meet and Greet/Orientation yet? That's when parents typically drop off school supplies. If you haven't purchased those supplies yet you should be able to get a list at your local Wal-Mart or go online to the school's website. Other than school supplies you should probably send, lunch money (in a sealed envelope with your child's name, his teacher's name and labled LUNCH MONEY), a snack (preferably nutritious) with a drink (most teachers are happy if you send water due to spills, but definitely NO soda), a lightweight jacket (those classrooms/cafeterias can be chilly) and his backpack. I also put a folder in my kids backpacks for papers being sent home. Good luck. We've been in school two weeks here!

Here is what i had to send for my daughter..
box of 24 crayons
no. 2 pencils
glue sticks and bottle glue
erasers
folder
school box
book bag
paint shirt
hand sanitizer
paper towels
Kleenex's
zip lock bags

I think that's it.. She is now in third grade, so I'm trying to remember.. Anyways I would just send the first 7 things i listed, and then you will find out what else to have.. All schools are different, so you might need other things.. Good luck!

Honestly my nephew just started 1st grade on Thurs and he brought a snack because it was a half a day which was correct and he also brought a pencil carrying case with pencils and crayons and when he came home. He told us that he only has to bring a snack, lunch if he is bringing it and just the folder the teacher gave him.

If the school hasn't issued a supplies list, check their website or even drop by the school (many will display the supplies lists).. If not, I'm sure the teacher will be happy to give you the list when school begins!

My sons school usually sends a list home. Maybe you could give the school a call and ask.

Well at first nobody really brings anything to school.
I think you shouldlet him bring his pencil case with colored pencils and pretty much the basic stuff and maybe one simple notebook for the first day.
Dont be stressed, the first days of school in first grade are all about playing and things like that.

Good luck.
