It can depending on the severity . . . but don't continually get your blades sharpened just to get the rust off. Too many sharpenings will shorten the life of your blade - and the sooner you will have to get a new blade! If the rust is very little, sometimes a little bit of baking soda paste will do the trick (just put it on and let it sit - don't rub or the edges might get dulled).
Hope that helps!

It just depends on how much rust are on them. If you just have a small amount of rust on the skating surface then sharpening would get rid of the rust, but if there is a large amount of rust then sharpening will not get rid of all of the rust.

It will get the rust off the bottom of the blades, but not the side. You could remove it from the sides by sanding it off. Use emory cloth, or a very fine grit sandpaper - the higher the number, the finer the grit. This will also remove the shine on the side of the blades, though, although a fine grit will not make as big of scratches as a coarse grit.

Just on the part of the blade where it contacts the ice. Try Steel wool-SOS pads on the rust. The steel has quite a bit of chrome in it and the rust will come off pretty easily.
