I've never taken a masterclass, but I have taken some week long workshops by fairly well known artists and this is what I have learned:
1. They are egocentric and either don't want to really share personal secrets with you, or will criticize your work if it threatens them.
2. They don't really want to teach, but they can get so much money for it they do it anyway - and you get to pay for some attitude.

Take from real teachers... people who may not be the most famous artist in the world but who know the principles and love helping you along.

I always wanted to take one of those. It's an immensely enriching experience. The students that have taken those classes in foreign countries always say how wonderful they were. It's not just the teacher that is important, but the environment, and the cultural experience. They are usually conducted by university professors, so the cost is influenced by the university that offers the class. Be sure you know whether the lodging is included. That can be the most expensive part of travel. Even if you can only do it once, DO IT! Some of the art professors I have had teach in those seminars regularly.

between $1800.00 and $3000.00 it kinda depends on the artist and the workshops involved, it shouldnt matter to you though,......if you wanna be an artist that bad,...the class wont matter, you'd be better off served by becoming a sign painter like ther way 75% of America's professional and well known artists have done since this place existed...........take it from Paul Revere,....."there's nothing better than advertising even if it's bas advertising." one of by land, $2.95 if by sea!!!!!!! and just think about it this way,........we all find out the hard way what is the best way some day, in our own way and it's the same way always. unless you're born into the aristocracy, in which case you go out and buy your own paintings and let some artist starve..C'mon, we all have to put into the kitty.
