Stick to the registry or give cash. They know what they need better then anybody else.

Why not give them something they can use that is practical but unexpected like a 1 hour consultation with a stockbroker or a life planner.
How about a montage/scrapbook of all the pics you have of them and their families. You can ask the other side if they will spare you some if you dont have any.
At 30 they probably have amost everything for their homes, so I wouldntt go that route, but there are some wonderful digital picture frames out there.
How about a beautiful piece of art work. Or a gift certificate to a gallery.
A gift certificate to a home improvement store.
If you have the funds, how about 2 tickets to a nice destination. Southwest flies for cheap these days. You dont have to include the accommodations or anything but the tickets are a good place for them to start planning a holiday. Make sure you buy open ended ticket so they can choose their departure date or make it 1 year from the date of their wedding so they can go somewhere and relax for their anniversary.

I agree with others who suggested money. Money is always used and you wouldn't have to worry about whether they liked the gift. Most of the time, I give a card with money. When I got married, we received a few photo albums but we couldn't put our pictures in none of them because of our picture size. So, I wouldn't recommend a photo album.
Another thing you could do is if the couple has a registry, you can purchase something from that. This way, you will be giving the couple something that they requested. Otherwise, give them cash.

Today it is customary to give cash as a wedding gift. Most people by from the registry for the engagement party, bridal shower, and even for the first year of holidays.

Most people say cash or gift card to where they registered but my husband and I received a $100 gift card to a fancy restaurant in our area. We had a very nice dinner a month after the wedding and had such a nice time. We thought of our friend that night and appreciated the thoughtfulness. It was another memory that we will always have related to our wedding.

I was married 3 years ago and received beautiful gifts. Hope this gives you some ideas:
Monogrammed bath towels with new last name initial.
A very nice cookbook with stand...on the first page leave a personal note wishing the two newlyweds "A Lifetime of Happiness" and date it.
They will always appreciate new picture frames for all of the new wedding pictures.
A photo album with their last names engraved on the front of it and the date.
One of my many favorite gifts was a set of bed sheets with monogrammed pillow cases.
Or you can choose maybe a beautiful wine basket...or bath basket with soaps, candles, bath beads, wine glasses, wine, and a set of robes....neat gift!!!
Or maybe a gift certificate for massages....they may need them to help with stress from planning a wedding :)
Hope this helps ya out!

Money. Most newlywed appreciates money because they are just getting started together and they may need or want things for their home & etc. I suggest to get a card and put money inside.
