There's tons of good ideas on here:

http://bbq.about.com/od/seasonal/a/aa062800a.htm

I always think it's nice to bring a dessert (cream cheese makes for a yummy cheesecake or check out the recipe I added below)...brownies and cookies are always a hit

You can't miss with a veggie tray, fruit tray, deviled eggs, salads (cole slaw, macaroni, potato...fresh veggie salad...all are great), baked beans.

BUT...on this website they suggest SANGRIA. That is both fun and different. That would be great for a cookout with adults. It's a nice break from the more common beer. There's a sangria recipe on that website (and more online)

Here's a recipe for a yummy yummy dessert made with cream cheese....you have to find these STELLA D'ORO ANGINETTI cookies at your grocery store to make them (you can use cans of mandarin oranges instead of pineapple and it's also wonderful). They taste light & fresh....they will disappear in seconds at a cookout!!:

ANGINETTI® "Cream Puffs"

Prep Time: 20 min
Total Time: 20 min
Makes: 10 servings, about 2 cream puffs each

1 pkg. (5 oz.) STELLA D'ORO ANGINETTI Cookies

4 oz. (1/2 of 8-oz. pkg.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened

1-1/2 cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping

1 can (8 oz.) crushed pineapple, well drained

CUT cookies in half horizontally; set aside.

BEAT cream cheese in small bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until creamy. Add whipped topping; beat 1 minute or just until blended. Gently stir in pineapple.

SPOON 1 Tbsp. of the pineapple mixture onto bottom half of each cookie; cover with top half of cookie. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Store leftover cream puffs in refrigerator.

See a photo of the cookie at http://www.kraftfoods.com/recipes/CookiesCandyOtherDesserts/OtherRefrigeratedDesserts/ANGINETTICreamPuffs.html

You can have fruit, maybe some finger foods, You can make cream cheese brownies. They may sound weird but they are really deliouse. Here is a recipie. You can take some sandwiches and some chicken. Bread, Cookout bread. You have to bring cookout bread! One of the best recipies is below the brownie recipie. It is a really recipie. Good luck!

CREAM CHEESE BROWNIES

4 squares unsweetened chocolate
3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) butter
2-1/2 cups sugar
5 eggs
1-1/4 cups flour
1 8 oz pkg cream cheese, softened

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 13x9-inch aluminum foil baking pan.
Read through this recipe entirely before you begin, as you will need to divide ingredients into separate batters in order to create two layers.

Microwave together the chocolate and butter on high setting 2 minutes. Stir in 2 cups of the sugar and blend well. Stir in 4 eggs and 1 cup of flour. Spread this mixture in the greased pan.

Beat cream cheese, gradually adding remaining ingredients. Combine well.

Spoon second mixture over batter already in pan. Swirl together lightly stirring with knife to create a marble-like pattern. Bake in Preheated 350 degree oven for 40 minutes or until toothpick has grainy fudge bits but is not clean, like in a cake. Be careful not to overbake.

COOKOUT BREAD

Great "Gotta Bring Something" bread, make ahead and heat up before meal.

1 stick butter
1/2 c. chopped chives
1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese
Loaf French or Italian bread, cut horizontally

Melt butter, mix in chives, spread on bread, sprinkle on cheese. Wrap tightly in foil, freeze until hour before use, take out and heat up in oven/grill.

GOOD LUCK!

Try pickling some sliced cucumbers and sweet peppers in some vinegar and honey , and let it sit for at least 1-2 hours. It goes well in a cookout, plus ITS VERY EASY!!!!!
