Either substitute mace for the nutmeg, or just leave it out. It does add flavor, but sometimes I use nutmeg or mace with the cinnamon and other times I just use the cinnamon.
No nutmeg is not necessary, but you might enjoy some the next time.

Nutmeg is not necessary. Just use more cinnamon. Cloves are nice, but you should pick them out before you put the apple in the pie.

skip the nutmeg. It honestly tastes pretty much the same. sometimes pumpkin pie seasonings (it comes ready in a jar like all the other spices) is a blend of cinnamon and nutmeg, and other woody spices. you could try that if you have it, but I'd just omit the nutmeg all together.

you can skip the nutmeg..... and/or add a bit more cinammon & sugar.

Don't use cloves. It turns out.................. Nutmeg is unnecessary, just add more cinnamon. Everything should be fine with your pie.

I think it adds a nice flavor but I don't think it's necessary. I'm sure it calls for only a small amount. I've left it out before when I haven't had any.
