I am dating a boyfriend in a serious term. I really do not want to have a wedding, but he says he wants to have a big wedding. If you have a son or daughter, would you want to have a wedding or it is up to your son or daughter?

If your boyfriend wants a big wedding and you don't want any, you both will have to compromise. Why not have a small wedding with a large reception. The final decision would be up to the couple. This is your first big test to see how you work out your problems. If you love one another, you'll find a way to both be happy. Congradulations on your life together.

no, it's not abnormal. and, it's up to the son or daughter to decide if they want a wedding. the problem here is that your boyfriend wants a big wedding and you don't. how do you handle that? to me that's a compromise, one of many compromises you will make in your marriage. meet in the middle - not too large and not too small of a wedding. this is your and your future husband's day and is meant to be happy for both of you. remember, the important thing is that you are getting married and will have a lifetime together. learn sharing and respecting each others wishes from the beginning and you'll always have a good marriage. good luck to you both.

The difference between what you and your boyfriend want may be a symbol of future disagreements so I would wait and see how you resolve this and then decide if you are really a match. I dont think it is up to parents to decide. If they are paying for the wedding they could have input but any good parent would want the kind of wedding that their child wants, wouldnt they? I would tell you both to wait a year or so and then see how things are. Just put the wedding aside for now
