MTB, it's so much more versatile, faster, lighter, has gears. More useful in general. If ya ever want to ride up hill anywhere or on a trail it will do it. A cruiser is fine for riding around the block etc. They aren't really that cheap anyway. You can have road tires put on a MTB is you ride streets. It really works well.

What do you want to do? If it's just riding around town and not long distances, and not off road, a cruiser is a nice bike. A mountain bike can do that and also go off road.

i like a mountain bike because i am into downhill racing, and a road bike would never do in a situation like that.
