The Panasonic PV-GS500 is a great 3 chip camcorder. I'm not sure exactly what your budget is, but this is around $800.

Schools have AV departments that can let you use high quality gear if you can get a teacher to sponsor your project. A nearby community college would be worth a visit.

Check a camera store for rentals.

Local videographers may have time availble to provide both a camera and operator for a very reasonable price. Small TV stations usually have a rate card for use of studio with lights, cameras and tape gear

Professional movie producers rarely own camera equipment because rentals are available.

Panasonic AG-DVC30.
Just like the DVX100..execpt its not 24P.

They have a nice movie mode...it has an XLR adapter for pro audio.

DVC30 around 1500
DVX around 3000

when you edit..pull the contrast up to give it a film look...and remember to WHITE BALANCE
