While touring Italy years ago I was shocked that the men & women share the same restrooms. These were located at the highway rest stops. I was totally uncomfortable when a woman sat in the next stall and took a dump. And then there was always a woman by the sinks to hand out paper towels with the expectation of getting a tip. My tip was....get the hell out of my way. LOL!!!!!!

The idea of a clean, well lit and well maintained unisex public restroom doesn't bother me. I figure most sensible people are in there to "do their business" not do THE business, you know what I mean. Only lowlifes, degenerates and soon to be ex-senators on the down low would use a public bathroom as a place for a sexual encounter!
I wish there were more restroom attendants around to keep the places tidy and ensure that toilet paper and what not was always stocked...and also to deter criminal activities that sometimes happen in restrooms...like drug deals and/or usage. I've seen needles left on the floors of public restrooms. Very creepy.

A couple of gay clubs round here have mix-gender toilets, can't say I really care that much... my favourite heavy metal club has single-sex toilets but there are always still guys in the girls and girls in the guys so meh... doesn't seem to make much difference what sign is on the door when a person is inebriated!
If you're gonna take the risk of shaggin' in a cubicle then what gender it is shouldn't really put you off - besides, it saves the trauma of 'my place or yours?'

I'm okay with bathrooms for both sexes, as long as there aren't urinals. I'm not okay with people having sex in a public place, though. The senator from Idaho is resigning over something like that.

They already do have restrooms which allow both sexes I live in Texas and in some clubs down here they have those. That's exactly what they use them for too. Disgusting. Personally I wouldn't use it to have sex.

I would not want to use the same bathroom as men. Their bathrooms are always disgusting! As for sex in a public restroom...ugh. No way. Skanky.

Mixed gender restrooms are ok, so long as there are no urinals. Public sex is not ever ok though, regardless of sexual orientation. I really wonder how depraved someone would have to be to stoop to that level.

what you've experienced is part of a culture shock. there is a saying, "when you're in Rome, do as the Romans do." You know, I was once in one of the Melanesian countries, and one time I went out to relieve myself so I was looking for a toilet and found none, so I asked one bystander and he told me: " the seaside is toilet for men, while towards the mountain is for women." True enough when I went to the seaside I saw men line up relieving themselves.
