EVERYWHERE! From Vegas, Hawaii and other exotic destinations to their own backyards. They get married on top of tall buildings and underwater. They get married at the zoo. They get married at DisneyWorld. They get married at hotels, restaurants, gardens, beachs, gazebos, bridges, national monuments, parks, art gallerys, bed and breakfasts, ships and cruises, light houses and historic buildings, rollercoasters, lodges and halls, taverns, and courthouses. You name the place and someone has gotten married there!

My husband and I got married in a park. We had a great spot, up on a hill. Our guests had to look up to see us (it was really cool). The only drawback to the park was our spot was right next to a road. We had cars driving past us during the wedding, but some stopped to watch us get married!! The wedding was purely casual. We had our reception at the park. We had ordered Subway subs, the party sized ones, had bottled water and sodas, and we filled a kiddie pool with ice, and everyone brought salads and snacks that we kept chilled in the kiddie pool. It was a great wedding, and the reception was awesome. That was 6 years ago and we still get people that tell us that was the beset wedding and reception they had ever been too.

I work at a museum and we have people that rent our place out all the time for weddings and receptions. They pay for caterers to come in, the museum is decorated, and looks awesome for special events. We're a living museum that has all live animals, so the nature backdrop is a huge hit with everyone that comes for events.

My brother is getting married this month. His wedding is going to be at his fiancee's parents' home with the reception in the same area, all outdoors.

Basically, you don't have to follow suit by having your wedding at a church or on a beach. As long as you are happy, and pick the location that both of you enjoy, you'll start your lives together perfectly. And don't worry what others might think, it's your day. It's all about you.

I'll try not to mention things that are already in your list. I am a Ordained Minister--in my short career I h ave done a wedding in their home--My living room, a rose garden (City parks and rec--here it was only $30 to rent!) one at the American Legion Post--then had the reception after--in the same room, in a park-in a gaze boo--it was spitting rain-but still a beautiful ceremony.

But as I have only been doing this about a year I have not had many cool places. You can get married and have a reception just about anywhere. Depending on funds of course. I live near Indianapolis Indiana--the Children's Museums does weddings! Movie theaters--find an old one. Depends on what you want. If it will be a small wedding, do you know anyone who has a "club house" in their neighborhood or apartment complex-We threw a reception for friends of our in one, BTW. Worked great.

If there is a special place the 2 of you share, ask about doing it there--they may say no, they may say yes--they may have never done it but might be willing!

Just have fun! Good luck!

I'm getting married in a state park. There is a beautiful patio with a scenic overlook where we are holding the ceremony. The reception will also be at the park inside a reception hall they have there.

When we were looking for a place to get married we also looked into city parks and there was even a private lake that rented to wedding parties (also with reception hall). Our city also has a botanical garden that hosts weddings on occasion.

I have also been to receptions at country clubs, in historic buildings (like an old mason's lodge or the elks club metting hall), and even a community center. Also, some museums have a room that you may rent for a (usually smaller) reception. A friend of mine got married in a historic chapel in a state park and then had the reception off site at a yacht club.

The weddings/receptions I went to all seemed to go smoothly. I can't recall any problems people had at any of the above-mentioned venues. I guess it depends on what you want and who is running the facility. Some places will provide catering (and not allow you to bring your own food) while for others you're free to find your own caterer (or yourself). If you are not getting married in a church you will have to find an officiate to marry you at your desired location. This took a little bit of extra work for us, but I am happy with who we found.

Oh, I forgot to mention wineries...apparently they are quite popular with weddings these days (maybe they have been all along). And, another one...some colleges/universities have ballrooms you may rent and catering services (even if it's a dry campus, they typically allow alcohol at such events if desired).

Good luck with you planning--have fun!

I have friends who got married in a really pretty area of a hotel, some have gotten married in parks. You can get married pretty much anywhere you want.

My wife and I had our reception when we got married at the church, but hotel event rooms are nice, or a banquet hall is a nice place too.

My wife and I renewed our wedding vows last year, and we had the ceremony outdoors at a park, that had a Japanese Gardens, and it was very beautiful. We also had the reception at another park.

We got married at a bed and breakfast on a vineyard. The ceremony was in front of a gazebo overlooking the rows of vines and the reception was on the grounds immediately after. It was beautiful. We also looked into other ceremony/reception locations (they needed to do both ceremony and reception) that were at Victorian homes in the garden or at a vintage brewery with views of the city. I found all the spots on the internet.

There are usually historic homes that rent themselves out, Jr. League or Jr. Auxiliary Houses usually rent out, some cities have independent reception and event halls that do their own catering and decor and everything, country clubs, art galleries, museums, some restaurants.

For the ceremony only, check with the parks and recreation people about renting public park space. Some are really beautiful.

How about a ship on the ocean? One of those luxury yachts? You can get married out at sea & the reception right after that! Could you imagine the pictures you could have?

People can marry anywhere they want if the person doing the ceremony agree's to come. Your back yard, parks, anywhere you decide. If you have a backyard wedding your reception can be held there as well.

I am getting married in the Mojave Desert. We are having a small reception in a private room of an Irish Pub. (Our families are both primarily Irish.)
