LOL! I think you might call some of these "contemporary" rather than traditional. We haven't always been this way and there is hope yet that we can reverse the current lunatic course we are on.
Genocide: ask the native Americans and native Hawaiians what they think. happily we've moved past that.
Conformity: pick up any fashion magazine or just look at Yahoo! main page
Obesity: the stats speak for themselves
Consumer Goods: good grief just turn on your TV.

Are those your traditional values? Look, I am American and do not agree with what Bush is doing in Iraq or how he is a dictator (genocide). Obesity is everywhere, not only in America. What don't you offer a solution instead of pointing fingers. As far as worshipping material items, that is going to far. I certainly only worship God.

No, although a cynic might think so, looking at the American public today. I can speak for obesity specifically: obesity became an epidemic hard on the heels of the invention of color television. All those ads looked so real in color. And for years we were bombarded with not only color photos of unrealistically luscious-looking food, but long enough commercial breaks to go to the kitchen and grab something. Couch potatoes do not get enough exercise, but they do get plenty of psychological programming to eat, eat, eat.

Conformity is the only one of those where I'm not following your line of thinking. Can you explain?

Well, not 'genocide', and we have prided ourselves on being 'rugged individualists' (the whole 'cowboy' thing, you know!), but I think you're on the mark with 'obesity, and the worship of consumer goods.'

americans have a lot of faults if you want to put them in that light. but unnecessary criticizing implies a superiority complex that i doubt you or anyone else would be able to back up. unless you're norwegian, you haven't a leg to stand on...

I wouldn't pick those out as our faults...obesity, yes. obsession with goods, yes. I think we have other issues that need to be dealt with, but it's not the rest on your list.

All of the above except the genocide. I don't know of any evidence of this.
