Faith, by definition, means believing in something either without evidence or despite the evidence. So you need to ask whether you're really looking for faith, or is it understanding and an ethical and spiritual basis upon which you can live a good and moral life?

If it is faith, you're going to need to pick something to accept and then be willing to look past all the holes in its fabric. If it is an ethical and spiritual basis for living that does not require suspension of credulity, you'll need to examine the many alternatives.

Blessings and good fortune in your quest.

What makes you think "getting back your faith" is the right thing for you? Perhaps moving on, learning about spiritual matters from as many different points of view, would serve your purposes better.

Try taking some courses in psychology of religion, philosophy of religion, anthropology of religion, as well as about the major religions of the world. If you are out of college, you can probably find some of them at the local community college on a part-time basis. Or you can go to the library and wander through the various viewpoints there.

Or use the Internet, although much cross-checking must be done, because some people have no compunctions about telling outright lies on the Internet. It's not like publishing in print, where you can be held accountable.

It won't make any sense unless you do one thing...read it from the beginning and work your way forward. Don't skip around...stick to the King James version of the Bible primarily but if you come accross a passage that gives you trubs then check the NIV for a feel and go back to the KJV. While you read you may notice that you are bored and sleepy. No worries...keep praying. I have been an avid reader and studier of the Word of God for the last 11 years...don't trust me..find out for yourself...you will see so much and it will happen all at once and you won't be able to consume all the information fast enough. Its beautiful. Love in Christ, ~J~ He is faithful and just...Seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened....ask and it will be given to you.

If you have any questions...email me...I can show you where to look for stuff. Also stick to the Hebrew meanings of names and places...not the Greek. Love in Christ, ~J~

I would have like it if you could have been more spicific. Is there an y teaching of event that you are having the most problem with? When you "believed" who did you think Jesus is? What caused you to doubt? Can you see the prophecies and types of Christ that fill the Old Testament? Have you spent anything just being still in your prayer time listening for God to show you His way for your life? IHS Jim

Try reading the Bible from a spiritual standpoint. It actually makes sense and is very logical. There are many new thought churches that can help you make sense out of the Bible. It does require a lot of thinking, not just parroting scriptures that you don't really understand. Good luck. Seek and you will find.

did your faith leave when you accepted reality as it is, vs how faith and hope lead you to think it should be?

the bible only makes sense if you don't read and listen others tell you what to think from the business end of a pulpit

if you read the bible, you would find it's mostly about hate, inequality, justified murder, jihads against those who oppose a god or THEIR god, benevolence to fellow believers and massacres to unbelievers, a struggle to make others converts and simply support them even if it's nonsensical

head's up...I'm with you and would rather be uncertain but aware/awake/sentient than going back to blind faith and obedience to a person who claims they know a god's will for me, usually means I give time and money to them while putting self aside

Get back your faith? I always thought you either believed or didn't. Don't worry someone below me will try to tell you what to believe, rather than you making your own decision. Be a sheep in the flock, or don't. Your choice.

It will make sense if you carefully listen to Jesus(pbuh) and not to Paul, Peter or Bishops.

Pls. read the following clear verses:

John 16:5-15
5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

The God has glorified Jesus in the Glorious Quran. The real comforter/ helper is the prophet Muhammad(pbuh).
The Holy Ghost was already with him untill crucification.

You may read the glorifying verses at the web: www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/Quran>
