They weren't born poor.
Their parents were poor, and shouldn't be having children when they can't afford them.
Say WOW all you want. It doesn't negate the truth. I have no responsibility towards other people's children. If a person can't afford children, they shouldn't be taking on that responsibility.

Deserve has nothing to do with it. In this nation we have a collective consciousness of prosperity and so for the most part we are. We did absolutely nothing to warrant being born in a rich country. Luck of the draw. Keep in mind not all people have the same definition of poor and rich. Some think we are materially rich and spiritually poor.

If a person is born wealthy, did the person deserve to be born wealthy?
IE Paris Hilton????
Being Poor is not the worst thing in the world. Just look at the people who are poor, they still manage to have happy lives and marry and have children and be good people. True no one should live in abject poverty in today's world, but no country will the vast wealth they do should sit back watch it happen.

Being born poor is only abhorant to the person who fears poverty. Many great people, including those obscure persons of the Bible who became men of God, were born of little or nothing. Our concept of rich has changed because of the over abundance of everything to everyone so that we see someone who has little as being poor. A person can be rich within and have many charectoristics that God has supplied them with to get them through life and things and money don't matter compared to these. Jesus had no place to lay His head of an evening when it came time to sleep....did He consider Himself poor? Being rich can be a curse even more so than being poor....especially if one is born into richness...whats sad is that most rich people don't see that they are lacking in all the important essentials. I was born into a poor household. Uncle Sam was my father. I grew up on the welfare system.
Guess what? That was my mother's decision. Guess what? I overcame that.
I made the right choices so my children didn't have to suffer the shame I felt.
I don't blame anyone. I don't feel ashamed about it now. But, it did make me realize that I didn't want to do that to my children if I didn't "have" to.
My mother was just in a situation she couldn't get out of.

Yes. The Web of Karma. Sometimes we see that a person is not even born fit to enjoy life—he is born poor and underprivileged, or very ugly, or even crippled or retarded. This is not simply the result of random chance or "cruel fate." Krishna says, bhüta-bhävodbhava-karo visargaù karma-saàjïitaù: "The action that develops these material bodies is called karma, or fruitive activity." (Bg. 8.3) Destiny, or fate, is not due to chance, but is the result of our own previous work in the world to get some results and enjoy them. We're all caught in a web of karmic reactions from the past, and busy with more fruitive activities in the present, in this way steering ourselves toward repeated birth, old age, disease and death in the future. That is why Krishna offers us the knowledge of Bhagavad-gitä—to teach us the nature of the soul so that we can deliver ourselves from this material bondage.

All I can say to Mystine is, WOW.
Poor people must make terrible parents or something.
Nobody deserves anything that they have any more than anyone else does. There is no divine right to wealth and power. Its all just lucky sperm.
EDIT
Beautifully put Jana!

No.That's silly.Does a child born in,say,Zimbabwe deserve to be poor? No.lt's just the circumstances the baby was born in,due to a number of reasons.
I believe we need to follow the example of Jesus.I cannot imagine him sitting there saying,'Too bad. It's not my responsibility to look after other people's children. It's not my responsibility to help feed the poor.' On the contrary,Jesus said 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink? When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you? When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?'
"The King will answer them, 'Most certainly I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.' Then he will say also to those on the left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry, and you didn't give me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink; I was a stranger, and you didn't take me in; naked, and you didn't clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn't visit me.'
"Then they will also answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and didn't help you?'
"Then he will answer them, saying, 'Most certainly I tell you, inasmuch as you didn't do it to one of the least of these, you didn't do it to me.'
It is our responsibility to help, not act like self righteous little berks because we are lucky enough to live in prosperous countries. As is said in the Bible,'to whom much is given, much is required'.
