There is nothing you can do to change the "side" that the round pops out. The gun is manufactured that way.

However, they have an adapter that plugs into the ejector port that makes the round expel forward and out, instead of directly to the right. It is made specifically for left handed shooters.

To my knowledge, they are made for all military assault rifles.

So, just ask for that adapter and good luck.

Well being a lefty myself I know all about this. Now weather or not your going to have a problem all depends on a single factor. Is it an old AR-15? The early model Colt AR-15 (model SP1) did not have the built in shell deflector or forward assist. (this happens to be the model I have and shoot) Since then with the exception of some reproductions all AR-15's have a built in shell deflector. Now with all of that being said if you do have an old model really if you pay attention to how you shoot it the shells will avoid hitting you and if they do it they very lightly graze the cheek or neck. Also if you shoot some of the new polymer cased rounds due to their much lower weight they wont come close to hitting you either. Trust me I have done my own homework and still to this day don't use a shell deflector. All I walk away with are some little red marks on my neck that go away after a few hours. I do plan on getting one but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I put together a quick picture showing the differences I'm talking about. Look in the source list for the link to the picture.

Hope this all helps.

There's already a shell deflector on the AR-15 upper receiver, it's the bit that sticks out just behind the ejector port. One of my friends shoots left handed and says it's no problem with the AR-15.

Alternatively Stag do a fully left handed AR-15, the picture on their homepage also shows the shell deflector. As you can see they also reversed the controls, so it's a full conversion for southpaws.

I shot an AR-15. And I am also left handed. You should not have any issues. I certainly never have.

Rock River Arms produces a left handed AR15. Costs about $ 1,000 brand new.
