Is there any sort of emotional detachment training for med students specializing in an extra stressful field?

I want to become a ER surgeon in one of the inner-city county hospitals, where many of the homicide victims are transported to. Would there be emotional training available for me?

**ANY information about ER surgeons would be appreciated as well**

There are no "emotional detachment" classes or training. You need to learn how to deal with your emotions, not get rid of them. In fact, getting rid of your emotions will more than likely hurt you as a doctor.

Okay. First of all, there is no "emotional detachment" training, other than starting at the bottom of the pile and working your way up, getting abuse from everyone above you along the way.

"ER surgeon" doesn't make sense. Trauma surgeon, maybe. ER doctor, maybe, but not both.

Homicide victims don't need doctors, unless it's a pathologist doing the autopsy. It isn't homicide unless they're dead.

If you want to be a doctor, start there. Worry about specialty after you get into med school.

In my opinion, surgeons are really arrogant fools. They don't know anything other than opening up people and cutting their arteries inside. They believe in hiearchy and you will remain pretty much incompetent and dependent on someone else expertise for long time. Also work hours are not flexible and worse of all you got to wear those stupid masks and caps. Surgeons are a gone race. Nanomedicine will get rid of these arrogant brats.

No such special training is imparted in medical education. During practice stress tolerance becomes a habit.
