I have a boy and girl puppy. Can I keep her from getting prego? If not how soon do I have to worry about it happening?

That will be a VERY hard task. It is hard to keep them separated when the female comes into heat. He will try to get to the female anyway he can, rip up your house.
He will also whine, howl, bark, pant excessively and also bark at all hours.
Having intact dogs is a lot of responsibility.
It is best they get spayed and neutered.
You will save yourself a lot of stress and sleepless nights.
The male will probably mark in your house all over everything.
Usually they come into heat around 6-10 months old.
Please get them spayed and neutered.

No, since you have the male one too. Of course if you neuter the male and keep them in the house all the time you could, but it is a torture for you and the dog. Our neighbour had this problem, she was chased around every time she walked the dog when she was in heat. And accidents do happen. So the best idea is to neuter and spay both your dogs, you will relieve the sexual frustration from them, stop them from marking, avoid contributing to the overpopulation and avoid some serious illnesses they may develop later. Plus they will be better dogs, not affressive towards other dogs (especially the male).
You should do this when they are about 6 months.

The only other way is to keep them completely seperated when she is in heat. But if you do that, they will both make your life miserable. Males have a tendency to howl and whine, go off their food, scratch at doors and become escape artists when they are around females in heat. Females themselves will do all that stuff as well, except usually without the howling. You'd be living with this for about three weeks, twice a year. If you don't get her fixed, you can expect her first heat around eight months. Some dogs go as early as six months and some as late as one year, but a general rule of thumb is eight months. Usually their first heat can be easily missed so you have to be very watchful and careful. It's probably easier just to get her spayed.

No,you need to get them both fixed. It's healthier for the dogs, especially the female,as she will not be able to get a uterine infection, which is fatal if not treated ( by emergency spay surgery) The male will be nicer and less likely to mark in the house, and you won't ever have to worry about an accidental pregnancy.Get the girl done first, and then the boy,if you can't afford to have them both done at once.

their are currently no dog contraceptives, the only way you could stop her getting pregnant is to keep her in an extremely secure yard away from the other dog. Apart from getting pregnant are you aware that female unspeyed dogs bleed when they come on heat and that all the entire male dogs tend to end up in your yard. She should be speyed at around 4months to prevents pregnancy, dogs can come into heat for the first time anywhere between 5months and 18months. I suggest being a responsible dog owner and desexing both yopur dogs at the same time.

people who breed dogs (thus not having the female spayed) will put doggie diapers on their female dogs when they are in heat. I dont' know how old your pups are, but dogs generally go into heat twice a year on average, and can start going into heat as young as 4 months old.

But to ensure that she will not get pregnant, the only way to be sure is to have her spayed. Even if you neuter your male dog, the female might get a "visit" from other dogs that will impregnate her.

Get them both fixed! Many communities offer low cost spay/neuter clinics, if money is an issue.

Yeah, have him neutered. Then when you see how much nicer it is not to worry have her done.
