I have a big scrape on my knee and my dog keeps licking it. I have heard that a dog will lick it to help clean it. Is that true?

Dogs produce a natural special detergent in there mouth that helps clean wounds so there shouldn't be a problem. DOGS DO HAVE CLEANER MOUTHS THAN HUMANS BECAUSE OF THE DETERGENT! OTHERWISE IF THEY LICK THEIR OWN WOUNDS THEY WOULD BE INFECTED CONSTANTLY!! duhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Yeah dogs' mouths AREN'T cleaner than a humans so it really isn't a great idea to let your dog lick your wound. Furthermore, why is this even a question? As a general rule, don't let other animals come in to contact with your open wounds.

It can become infected. Dogs mouths do not have any magical properties -contrary to common belief- that will heal your wound. Wash your leg with warm water and soap, then put a band-aid, or other covering over it until it has healed.

No the dog is trying to heal it, and they have the ability to heal more wounds then a antibiotic cream does, the vet told me this and i was shocked, they know u are hurt and they want to heal u regardless of how small the cut is.

Not unless you are allergic to dogs. It shouldn't harm you. My neighbors dachshund does that every time he sees my pitiful excema scraped legs. lol. I think he thinks he's soothing them, but so far it hasn't helped! But it's very kind of him, none the less! I think they thinks it's nurturing or something! He's trying to make you feel better! Go with the flow.

merely shop doing what your doing now and it is going to heal up great. some people are like rush your canines to the vet asap for the littlest ingredient yet often times that expenditures to lots because of the fact canines are continuously leaping and enjoying and there going to get harm. So merely shop it wiped sparkling out. yet while it does start up to swell or get pink and aggravated then it could desire to be contaminated.

It's a myth that dog's saliva has curative properties. It does not. Don't let your dog lick it. Good luck!
