If that was all it took science would have disproved religion a long time ago. But Christians get around it by saying that God can do anything and is not subjected to our understanding of what is possible or not.
Btw even by current scientific knowledge that doesn't disprove anything. It is actually possible to become pregnant if you are a virgin. Sometimes women can become pregnant without actual penetration if she and a partner are *AHEM* "fooling around" and the male ejaculates close to her.....you know......
There is also artificial insemination

Let me pose two other ideas to you.
1. The word that Bible scholars translated to "virgin" actually meant "young woman". The original word had nothing to do with whether the girl ever had sex, it simply meant that the person was young and was female. Therefore, incorrect translation could be the result in creating myth out of what may have otherwise been mundane fact.
2. There were many other "heroes" in Greek and Roman mythologies. These heroes were born of human women and Gods. Sound familiar? So, Hercules, born of Zeus and human woman, would be akin to Jesus. The Jesus myths have all been told before in one way or another. Turning water into wine--that was done by Dionysos, the Greek God of wine and intoxication. Hanging while being tortured--well, that would be Prometheus. Walking on water--an ancient Egyptian Mythology the God Horus walked on water, and in ancient Greek Mythology the giant hunter and son of the gods Orion walked on water. Both Hindu and Buddhist traditions have stories about walking on water.
Shall I go on, or do you see that Jesus was another mythical hero that the Jews felt they needed so that they could compete with the Pagan Romans on an equal spiritual or religious playing field? The Apostle Paul was also guilty of combining Pagan myth with the story of Christ--we associate trees and mistletoe with Christmas--pagan traditions.
Most theologians become either atheists or agnostics because they realize that all world religious are pretty much plagiarizing each others' bs.

sorry, but your knowlege of biology and physics are apparently lacking.
it *is* entirely within the realm of biological possibility for a woman to become impregnated, through purely earthly means, without ever actually having sexual intercourse.
as a bottom line, several factors.
1) hymens are not usually a clean seal, in fact some are hardly even existant to begin with. from what I've read a very tiny minority are actually totally sealed like many people tend to think.
2) during that time frame people rode things like horses and mules and suchlike. these modes of transportation are not luxury vehicles. what seal there may or may not be can be broken by riding such animals.
3) the average sperm have about 3 days to get to their destination. they know where they are trying to go.
4) virginity has to deal with what goes in. not what comes out.
5) EVEN the previous points not withstanding, ITS SUPPOSED TO BE MIRACULOUS!! part of the whole point of the alleged story is that the guy allegdly isn't purely earthly, thus the point being that its in spite of the fact its supposed to seem impossible.
6) the messiah of the old testament could not have been born without a legitimate biological father *anyway*.

"i dont believe in catholicism or cristianity"
Catholicism IS xianity.
Looks like the fundies still have hold of your brain by its stem.
Oh, and I doubt Mary's virginity one way or the other has much to do with a person's decision to become an atheist.
It's common knowledge that ALL the godmen who preceded Jesus were born of virgins - it's a godman thingy.
Stephen F. Roberts: I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.

there are truths in religion that are very very old much older than Judasim or Judeo Christian beleifs . there roots are all the same. The oldest known religion is hinduism. In that religion there is something called yoga. You have probably heard of it. Judeo christian beleifs take older concepts replaced them with new smbols and charecters. from these older forms. In yoga there are Chakras along the body starting at the base of the spine and going up there are seven. the lower chakras and this is a simplified explanation are of lower animal functions eating breeding conquer and subdue. Lower instincts. Now there at the 4th chakra is the heart chakra spiritual awakaning. The Virgin birth is not a biological act It is a spiritual event that starts at the heart chakra above lower primal intincts.
The spirit and it was understood by those in the past is above biology. Its about the soul
Now Jesus said unless a man is twice born he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. Unless he is born of a mother and of the spirit. He was well away of chakras and that concept and so was most of the ancient world. It is a very common religious symbol. There were many virgin births
You need to know that it is all metaphor. they are all symbols and attempts to describe the human spiritual journey.
Simple biology has a great deal to do with the images we use But he images are about something bigger than us. The symbols are just symbols the meaning is true.
You want to be happy be reborn and become aware of something bigger than your lower animal needs It doesnt matter what religion but IF you want to have a path to God YOU need to be reborn

You are look'in at it from the wrong side of the fence. I believe God created all that is in a literal 7 day period, and have no problem believing that a God that can do all this can let a virgin carry and deliver a man child. Go get you a KJV bible and read it for yourself. Even if you don't believe it it cant hurt you. It makes more since to me than a single cell organism birthing out the whole human and animal kingdom. By the way where did the single cell organism come from?

I agree with you, but religions don't go on reality, but rather 'faith'. People that believe in the virgin birth believe that Mary became pregnant by God's spirit not through sex.
Oddly enough, in today's time with in vitro fertilization it IS possible for a virgin to give birth. They might have to surgically open up the hymen though, to let the baby pass. But anyway, that technology wasn't around back then, so it would've still been a miracle.

Or possibly, its the reason that you aren't a Christian (Catholics are Christians too) is the reason you believe this way....
Being a Virgin relates to the sexual act only..not to giving birth and not to an intact hymen.
The Blessed Mother was overshadowed by the Holy Spirit and Jesus was placed into her womb. There was no sexual act. Hence, her virginity was intact.
In Charity,

The story of the virgin birth is in the realm of myth. We don't know whether it really happened or not. I'm a believing Christian and I don't know if it really happened the way it's told in the Bible. Even so, it doesn't change my faith or my belief system.

You can supply proof that religion is a hoax however the religious folk will ignore any proof because religion promises people that they will get a second chance to live their lives again. Without that promise, the houses of worship would be empty and broke.
