I was told you couldn't at first unless you are re-enlisting. Then I was told they will give you a list of areas you MOS is needed and you get to choose from there. I want to go in a 46Q and want to go to Fort Knox or Fort Lee. Can anyone help me out with this.

First termers can seldom get choice of station in their contract. It is typically only offered to people as an incentive to re enlist or as a reward for taking a Hardship tour( Korea, for instance)

How you get your duty station at school will be based on the school's policy. For instance, you could be told where you are going. Or, you could be allowed to choose from the list based on class ranking.

The list will be entirely dependent on which locations are in need of your particular job specialty and experience. If Knox or Lee doesn't need any 46Qs when it comes time for you to get orders, you won't be getting either location.

46Q? Is that a journalist?
If either of those posts:
1) Have a unit with that MOS in their MTOE

and

2) There is a slot open for a entry level person in the above listed.

Then the answer is a definite MAYBE.

you should be able to request a duty station, You can give 3-4 locations in which you would "like" to go. If not, chances are they might have your duty station already chosen for your company by the end of basic or early AIT.

You can put it in a contract but that means very little in the end.The military is not bound in any way by any contract it signs with you!

You can get that option, but they have to really want you to enlist.
