I have this canker sore in the underneath my bottom lip. At first it was pretty small and did not hurt much. But after a week or so, it got bigger and more painful. I started to put a medicine called pyralvex to treat the sore. But it still remained for a few more days and got bigger and became inflammed. To relieve the pain, I gargled some Listerine mouth wash. After about 3 hours, I put some more pyralvex on the sore; it started to bleed and look irritated. This has lasted for about 2 weeks. I now know that this is a major canker sore. What can I do to relieve the pain and make this sore go away faster?

Really salty and hot water. It sucks but salt is great for mouth wounds. Though, if I were you, I'd might go to the dentist if its been persisting this long.

Hey man, I know exactly how you feel about canker sores. I get the same thing, ever since I was young until now. I did some research on canker sores and found out that they are not contagious, but can be genetically passed down in the family. I get these from my dad's side of the family, and they are very painful; I also get multiple canker sores simultaneously; and like you said, from eating, to brushing your teeth, they're really hard to get rid of. I've tried many methods as well, but none of them has worked for me. I usually let them go away on their own, because there really isn't anything that I can use that works. I use this gel that you buy in stores, I don't know what it's called, but it's for canker sores. It numbs your sores and the surrounding area, but unfortunately, they only work temporarily. Hope this helps, and good luck. You're not the only one out there. =)

I have the same problem right now and the proven cure for a canker sore is hot salty water!! It will make it hurt at first but after your done swishing it around your mouth it will actually help relieve the pain for a bit. The salt also helps kills the virus that caused your outbreak in the first place. Never rinse with Listerine, cause the alcohol will just irritate it and make it worse, which I can tell it did!! But with hot salty water, it should go away within a few days. You will feel much better after just one day of treatment. I suggest you rinse with hot salty water about 4 times a day for about 5 days for a complete cure. And by hot I mean as hot as your mouth can stand it, not luke warm, but not boiling hot either!

I hope this helps you, It does me!

P.S. Antibiotics will not help with viruses, which a canker sore is! Bacteria and Viruses are two different organisms and they are killed by different mean, antibiotics will do absolutely nothing for you!

Sorry about your pain... don't know how you feel about buttermilk, but there are natural antibodies in it and it will help. My dad (who loves buttermilk and has suffered from canker sores and fever blisters all his life) is walking proof. It's actually like a virus in your system, so this natural antibiotic base will help. As far as pain, orajel or equivalent should help, a mix of vitamin e oil and aloe will help it heal faster. A warm salt water rinse, is also healing. My grandmother, (God rest her soul) who was Am. Indian gave this remedy to my Dad. Sounds strange, but it worked. Good luck!

If you're already using pyralvex, it's been there for 2 weeks, and only gotten worse... I'd see the doctor. ESPECIALLY if you smoke or chew.

Wow, this is strange. I usually try to clean these kinds of sores as often as possible with toothpaste or peroxide. It hurts, but not after the infection is cleaned out.
