The AF has never had trouble making a monthly mission. So they take off a lot. The AF recruiter that worked next to my office must have been there 20 hrs a week. Try on line Airforce.com. You might be able to find another recruiter there.
I use to live in Redwood City. You live around there?
Try a recruiter in Mountain View, or Sunnyvale. That is where I had to go.

This is a generic answer, but most recruiting offices only have one or two recruiters. Where as the Army would have five or seven.
And both services, cover nearly the same region/area. So the Air Force recruiter is covering a larger area using one recruiter versus a smaller area like the Army recruiter.
It's best to visit the recruiter, when you can...And, when he/she is available.
(I remember when I enlisted my recruiter was covering three different offices; nearly an 1 1/2 hour drive between each city.) Versus the Army recruiter who had five soldiers just in the city I lived in.)
(And, when I became a recruiter, in the same city that I had enlisted. It was just me, and the Army guys covered the same counties and cities as I, yet there were seven of them and only one of me. My answering machine stayed full...All the time.)

There are several recruiters in the Bay area(SF, Oakland, San Jose) The recruiter your trying to call may be on leave right now. If you go to AirForce.com and type in your address you can find a list of offices near you. Also in regards to the comments above, yes we do meet our goals earlier, but we are always recruiting.

Are you trying to enlist, or are you trying to get with an officer accessions recruiter?
Officer accessions recruiters might be a bit harder to catch on the phone, at least that's how it was for me. The process of becoming an officer through OTS is a bit more drawn out than if enlisting.
Maybe you should e-mail?

I think a recruiter would bend backward to talk to a possible candidate: take two minutes and WALK DOWN to the nearest recruiting station. It is surely not that hard to find if you're so determined to get in.

the AF no longer has recruiting quotas since they are so over manned. In other words, they don't need to return calls because they already have plenty of people banging down the doors to get in. Until you show initiative and show the recruiter you are serious, they won't get back to you at all.

Because it's the end of the fiscal year and they've met their recruitment goal. Try again on 1 October. Even if they talk to you now, they won't take you to enlist until October, so you can count toward next year's goal. It's all numbers.

Because they are the smallest branch of service and harder to get into. They meet their numbers faster than any other service. So check out the Army. You will be surprised.
