The bible was not written by GOD. it was written by "men".
The purpose; To control the masses via the use of fear of GOD and his wrath.
This is a book that has been edited by each regime of Patriarchs and Monarchs throughout the ages to suit their"personal" whims and fancies.
The overall message is good, although the story line and contradictions within are confusing at best.
Good reading , but I personally feel that basing your life around it is an act of misguided ignorance.
Marx comes to mind: "Religion is the Opiate of the masses"

As far as, the age of the earth, and evolution, then, yes, I would agree that science has proven that you cannot trust the Bible. I mean, according to the Bible, the earth would be about 5000 years old, but according to scientific methods, the earth is billions of years old.

The Bible doesn't claim to explain the literal orgin of the universe. It's ridiculous fundamentalists (who must make every issue black and white) that take the Bible that way. They ignore the different genres within the Bible and take everything as a historical record (i.e. Genesis 1).
I'm a Christian and I've read the Bible. To me, creation simply means that God is the orgin of the universe. How exactly it came into being doesn't matter at all to me. Did it happen in six days? I think not- Genesis 1 is poetic, not literal. Is Earth only 6,000 years old? No way.

I agree- mostly.
The main turning point for me was when science explained that the plague on Egypt had nothing to do with God, it was Mt Vesuvius. It started a long interest in facts vs the bible.
In the end, I believe science & history can prove everything that happened in the bible that was supposedly an act of God. The only thing science can't disprove is the existance of God at all.. but then again.. science can't prove he does exist.

I disagree, Science has proven nothing, and in fact a recent branch of Science has done exactly the opposite, it has proven beyond a doubt that the Bible had authorship quite a bit more developed than the people of the time it was written. http:www.theomatics.com is the site for information on the FACT that the Bible is in fact mathematically Divine! Check it out and learn the facts for yourself. If you know Greek or Hebrew you can confirm their findings through independent research, if not they give you other sources to help you gain the information that supports their findings.

It's only a problem for people who WANT to treat the Bible as a literal book of history or science. Not all Christians use the Bible in this way. Some would even say that to treat it as such is to miss the point and purpose of the book. So they don't "trust" the Bible for answers on science just as they don't "trust" a biology textbook for answers on moral guidelines.

No, science has nothing to do with the Bible as the Bible has nothing to do with science because its domain is the religious, moral one not the scientific one. It is a disservice to religion if one uses the Bible as a text book of science.

Science has proven that you cannot trust the Bible about certain things. Its possitively lousy on the literal origins of the universe, for example. But then again, who reads the Bible for a science lesson? Just because some things are incorrect on a literal levels doesn't mean everything is, and it certainly doesn't mean the allegorical and metaphorical lessons do not still have impact.

Oh yes and science has pr oven to be such a trusty sidekick of mankind, yes we have life saving medical advances, and we have nuclear bombs.learned to mass produce food, so we all get enough to eat(yes i know this doesn't hold true for the entire world) and invented chemical warfare, science has made our lives convent in so many ways , and also gave us toxic no degradable materials, yes science is so very trustworthy, like a badly worded wish to an evil Jeanie, now religion on the other hand has taught us love peace and charity(unless your not my particular religion)then its war hate and death. You see you look for absolutes, when the basic nature of man is bitter duality.a linear answer to all of this (reason meaning for life)would overload our brains, and i doubt we could understand this singular answer.Sadly i don't think we would accept this mythical answer if it was given. We would most likely doubt the answer given.
