Honestly..... I hate it. Maybe if they adjusted it a little it may be better but the way it is now stinks. Why even race the 26 races to begin with cuz the points get all taken away. I understand why they wanted to change it for more interesting racing but there has got to be a better way....
They should something like baseball ... take the top 15 drivers after like 26 races & reset points.....have those 15 only race a few races & reset points again... then take the top 5 & rest points again and have those 5 only on the track racing for title.
Something like that anyways.
It is such a gamble having 43 cars on the track when only 12 are racing for the title.
As it is now if you pay someone enough money and they could take someone out to help someone else win the title. I would hate to have any driver with a real chance of winning the title (no matter who it is) lose that chance just cuz another driver who is like 23rd in points intentionally or un-intentionally cause an accident.

In my hypothetical suggestion to do something like a baseball playoff....
The top 5 drivers racing for the title would of coarse be racing in Homestead for the final race of the year......... only those 5 drivers would be in Homestead.
Fans of other drivers would be disappointed and personally if my driver did not make the playoffs that begin after the 26th race then I would not want to go to the track at all...no sense in going if my driver was not in the playoffs...so this will not happen as cuz nascar wants to make money and sell tickets....but it was just an idea!!!!

Tina8budfan had a good idea too.... makes sense to me.
When the Chase starts & before points are reset.... whoever is in the #1 spot in points out of the top 12 who make the Chase....in this case it would be my driver Jeff Gordon so I'll use him for an example (sorry 24 haters).....
Give Gordon some type of a trophy for being in 1st place after 26 races.... then reset points and have the top 12 race for the ultimate title for the year. If the guy who had the points lead can hold his lead then he can win a 2nd trophy for the season. I do not know.... it is all talk and all ideas and nascar don't care what we think they will do what they want.
I just don't like the fact that any driver in the top 12 can be taken out by a driver who did not make the chase and I think eventually someone will be paid to ruin another driver's chance of a title.... mark my words someone will be paid to wreak someone else during the last 10 races..... accidents can be made to look un-intentional.

One word answer,NO.
Two word answer,HEYYELL NO.
Changing the point system, adding the chase, top 35 guaranteed and provisionals all of these changed the face of racing.
All of these just made it a soft way for certain teams to be in the race everyweek.
The fastest 43 should race.Sorry if a popular driver does not qualify he can come back the next race and try again.
There should be honesty and consistancy in the NASCAR system.

Before the chase, a season like this would possibly put different drivers in the top ten for the Banquet and award ceremony. The driver in 1st however, would go on to win the title. The other drivers are just too far behind in points. I like what they're doing this year and it makes more sense. I agree its a gamble to have 43 other cars on the track, but it always was in either scenario. I think you have a very interesting way to have a "play-off", but lets give this new points approach a chance.

I like it. What I didn't like was when the points leader only had to ride around the last 7 to 8 races making top 15 and he would win the championship. The chase gives more meaning to the last 10 races of the year than they had before.

Oh and to whoever it was that said "We "old timer's" to Cup series get set in our ways . We don't like the name change ,we don't like the new point's and alot of people don't like the COT.", speak for yourself. I've been a fan for 27 years and I like all those things. The name change means nothing to me. It doesn't affect the racing on the track.

And to Tina8Budfan, that is a good idea. 11th place used to be rewarded when there was 10 in the chase. 13th isn't now.

The Chase is soo dumb I can't stand it. It bugs me that even the NHRA adopted a similar idea. Come ON! Does anyone really give one flying flip about the guy that's 12th in points? All this B.S. talk about Dale making the chase. Even if he did, do you think he honestly deserves any shot at the championship? I don't think so. Neither does Clint Bowyer or Martin Truex. There's only about 4 guys who deserve any real shot at it. How P.O.d is Gordon going to be if he loses the Cup by about 10 points after enjoying a 300 point lead almost all year?

Maybe they could race to the chase starts and have a champion for it and then have a second champion for the chase (last 10 races). Right now there is no reward for the race to the chase other than being in the chase. That would make teams want to try harder and take less chances before the chase.

The only reason I say this is because I agree with her that Nascar will never do what the fans want and just do away with the chase. My response was a compromise

No, I hate the chase system.
Brian France seems determined to screw up what his father and grandfather built. Get rid of the chase, go back to who ever the best driver is ALL year wins. Get rid of the "lucky dog" have them race back to the line under yellow again. Put Bristol back to the way it was and get Toyota and Montoya out of the series.
Bring back Winston as the title sponsor. I still refuse to call it by any other name and Sears Point is not Infineon

No I don't like it at all.

Guess its like the name change ...Winston to Nextel and now Sprint . We "old timer's" to Cup series get set in our ways . We don't like the name change ,we don't like the new point's and alot of people don't like the COT.

However since we do have the Chase and theres nothing we as fan's can do to change it I say that all that are involved in the Chase have the same amount of points regardless of how many point's you have for winning a race.I'm talking about how it is here...

1 Jeff Gordon, 5,040
2 Jimmie Johnson, 5,040
3 Tony Stewart, 5,030
4 Carl Edwards, 5,020
5 Kurt Busch, 5,020
6 Denny Hamlin, 5,010
7 Martin Truex Jr.,5,010
8 Matt Kenseth, 5,010
9 Kyle Busch 5,010
10 Jeff Burton,5,010
11 Kevin Harvick, 5,010
12 Clint Bowyer,5,000

If their not going to start from scratch like they do at the start of the season they should of at least start with the same amount of point's with everyone getting 5000 point's

I likes the old way where you get more points the higher in the standings you finish, but I like how they give you 10 pts. for wins. I don't like how they do it now. I wish they would seed the drivers like laast year, then tack on 10 points for the wins after that.

It's crap. I've always been a fan of new ideas and change, Brian France is ruining it. Two others-top 35 automatically race and "lucky dog". Cut me a fking break.

NHRA has copied it. Now, top eight compete for championship. It is bullshite.

Hate It The champion should be the person with the best record all year. Not have his points taken from him. Brian France is NUTS.
