Today was my post-op and the nurse helped clean the extraction sites with the syringe. in the office i didn't feel any pain, just on one side my gums felt kinda cold and tingly after.

after eating, i cleaned it again and now that one hole hurts. it is like the pain you feel when you have a cavity. the feeling radiates under my chin and around the back of my jaw. i'm assuming it's from a sensitive nerve. is this normal??

it's been a week since my surgery.
i thought the risk of a dry socket has decreased now?

Not sure if it is normal, but the same thing happened to me....I was fine when the nurse done it, after I ate it hurt though..I think you are right, it is probably just a sensitive nerve...if you have any concerns, or if it gets really bad you should call your dentist and discuss you concerns! Good luck!

Sounds like dry socket. It is if the pain continues on for hours and days. Youll need to visit you dentist several times to have a clove oil soaked strip of material inserted into the hole in your gum. Its kind of painful at first but kills the pain for days in about 15 minutes. Usually takes 1-2 weeks and about 3-4 changes before it heals.

ARE YOU SURE YOU DON'T HAVE A "DRY SOCKET?"
THE "HOLE" SHOULD BE SUCH THAT THE EDGES OF THE GUMS COME TOGETHER IN ORDER TO HEAL.
USUALLY HEALING AFTER AN EXTRACTION IS UNEVENTFUL, AND THERE IS NOT MUCH DISCOMFORT. YOUR CASE IS TYPICAL WHEN THE HEALING SOCKET HAS DIFFICULTY IN CLOSING AND HEALING. IT'S NOT THE NORMAL THAT OCCURS.

Sounds like you might be "dry socketting". Which is very painful. Call the oral surgeon or dentist.

yeah- and if you dont clean the hole out it becomes insanely full of bacteria. ibuprofen or whatever pain pills take care of this. i know ive had wisdom teeth out recently!
