My problem with legalistic rules in any religion is that they cannot take into account the infinite possibilities of contexts and circumstances, and therefore cannot lead us to a higher truth. Anything affirmed, is easily attacked. Better to not affirm anything, but merely perfect the self.

Now this all sound like Im a KOOK and I am but read it and think about it. it is babble but it is based on some research so have a open mind.

Once it become law and history it has lost its deeper purpose That purpose is to help people be better humans and to have a connection with the trancendent.
is this new? No. Who comes into the world when it is unbalanced?WHen the letter of the law replaces the spirit. Indra Krishna Budha Jesus When the religion is the block and not the path its time for Revelation. New Metaphor for what cannot be described with human thought.
Babylonian cosmology universe comes into being flowers grows then starts to die and dissolves into the cosmic sea to be reborn. Genesis. Humans flower grow dissolve into sin and then the flood and then rebirth. Mayan calandar flower growth age of destruciton new universe. Metaphor for the process that has been happening for a very long time.

Religion as the path people flower and Grow. People grow past the Metaphor. It becomes a history book of laws. People lose interest. Power clings to power. Change is too much people not ready or searching retreat into the old time religion. Fundementalism terrorists. Then the new metaphor apears. To those who cling to the past they are In hell. Metaphoricaly they are surrounded by demons. Those who open there minds to the future are surounded by devas or angles .Metaphorically speaking.
We are on the Brink of a new world One world. one tribe . The modern pharisees dont want peace they want to hang on to power. IT is a exiting time to be alive.

Religious ideas are often -ideals-, meaning that they are something to strive for even if you can't reach them. We try to live up to our principles even though to do so completely is impossible.

For instance there are always going to be times when, looking back, we found we've done something selfish or inconsiderate. That doesn't mean we shouldn't even TRY to be considerate of others.

'Legalistic rules' are not set in stone. (Well, okay, the Ten Commandments -were- originally set in stone. Don't be a wise-***! I mean in a more figurative way they are not really set in stone). Just as our laws aren't set in stone. In both cases there are reasons for the rules, and it's the reasons that are important, not the rules.

There is nothing "legal" about any religion. God's law to them is not man's law and vice versa. As for affirming anything which is attacked, your best defense is a good "offense." LEARN that which you affirm to be truth and stand by your findings whether it contradicts or CONFIRMS that which you believe. The way you state this, is that if an enemy attacks, go hide in the corner for it is better to live than to die. Being a coward never accomplishes an AFFIRMATION of confidence in YOURSELF and without confidence in yourself you will never stand against an opponent.

Jesus said, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matt 11:29-30

Knowledge always makes the burdens light and when you learn of the Lord, when attacked you will have the confidence in you "answers....."

No absolutes? Sounds like a pretty scary world.

Somebody wise said something to the effect of
"once you start to rationalize something, it all just becomes persuasion". Agreed.
