I found a shock absorber from a mountain bike one day and tried to put it on my mountain bike with a plain fork. It didn't fit because the bar on the shock absorber was too thick to go through the hole in the frame of my mountain bike. Is it like this with all bikes without shock absorbers?

the stem diameter on the fork has to match the steer tube diameter on the frame. there's two different types of steering assemblies and you have to determine if they match. You will need to buy a new stem for a threadless steerer. And there's many different bearing types on bicycles. You would usually have to take the bike frame, with the fork to a bike shop and have the old bearings with their races, pressed out. And have new bearing and races installed with the special tools a bike shop would have. I don't think the shock your describing is worth it, unless the shock you found was a brand new $300 shock.

It is possible, as long as the fork size and the hole size are the same. It varies with different bikes. It would be easier (and maybe even cheaper) just to buy another bike.

Yeah, but you would have to go to a machine shop and get the right diameter shocks. But I would think that would be more costly than getting a new one. Good luck bro!

yes, you just have to get some with the right diameter head stock, it would almost be cheaper to buy a new mountain bike.

no before you buy rear shock absorbers make sure they fit on your bike
