Yes he was, and as for how he managed to deceive all the people...he did not deceive anyone! He simply gave them a choice of follow his religion or be killed. He had been trained in the Roman Catholic Church, but he was also the son of Pagan Parents, he studied the Bedouin beliefs, and that is where he came up with allah a moon deity in the Bedouin Pantheon and elevated allah in order to have himself as the "True Prophet" Mohammad was a trained military man and so he recruited followers that were soldiers and then established the convert the infidels or kill them Doctrine of the Islamic Nations.

many reasons
the salvation of Jesus Christ not for all .
some not accept the truth.
some use the power to let the others enter their religion.
some afraid to confess that Christ is the True God .
