Have we lost the ability to discern between right and wrong? Can you honestly say you are a good person? I personally doubt you can.

This can actually be a deeper question than I think some people realize. While we all would like to think/claim that we are "good", if we sit and think, most of us have done something "bad" at some point in time.

"Right" and "Wrong" are very subjective. What may be right for one person may be wrong for another. What might be the right thing to do in one set of circumstances may be wrong in another. As nice as it would be if all things had a clear-cut duality it really doesn't work that way - it isn't all black and white, we have lots of shades of gray.

I think the greater issue is our lack of concern for others. If everyone stopped to think about how their actions and words affected the people around them, as well as the world at large, I think this would be a much better place to live. Instead we have a very "me" centered culture, and concern for others has been brushed off.

But back to your original question - I doubt there is anyone on the planet who can claim to have always done the perfectly "right" thing in every given situation. However, there are lots of people who strive to be good (however that may be defined for them) and sincerely want to be a good person. But if you want to see the bad in everyone, you will always be able to find something. As for myself, I have made bad decisions and had my selfish moments, but overall I think I am a good person, and I certainly strive to be.

Hope that goes towards answering your question.

You know what Brian I do the best I can on a day by day basis to be the best person that I can be. I try to treat others with respect and dignity. I try to help others if I can. I obey the laws of the land and try my very best to live and show Christ through my life. But, I am a human being so you are right I am not always a good person. I do believe that I am the best person I can be and am working to improve that and as far as I can tell that's all anyone can do.

That's nice, dear - have a cookie.

I am not a perfect person, though on the main, I AM a good person.

BUT, you have already made up your mind about everyone here, and so nothing anyone says wuld convince you different, even if they knew you in person, and saved your life or the lives of your loved ones.

You already made a judgement call, and have a mindset - enjoy living with that.

To be a good person you must know the difference between good and evil, real and unreal, true and false, just and unjust, moral and immoral. Only Reason can guide you to distinguish between these opposites. Faith is e delusional sentiment for which one is prepared to do the dumbest things in life, including suicide and homicide.

If some among us have lost the ability to discern right from wrong, it is because instead of following the Living God, they choose to worship the bible instead of God, or their pastors, or the jargon of their denomination. They have taken the easy way to superficial spirituality instead of Jesus's way. These people are called fundamentalists.

Fundamentalists are far too worried about who is and who isn't a "good" person than about loving others. They are way too concerned with pushing their narrow views on others than with loving them as their brothers and sisters in Jesus.

I claim to be a good person. I know that my intentions are not to cheat, decieve, hurt, or otherwise "pull one over" on someone else.

I am not religious though, so I can't help you with the religion side of good/bad, yada yada.

That depends on what the definition of good is? People certainly can't decide. God is the only one who is good. We all fall short.
More importantly, how can an athiest prove what is truly good and evil?

The only good in anybody is from God. No one has good on their own even if they think they do.
But with that in mind I am a person who lives with God as my guide and try to do HIS will in all things which includes being a good person but I can't do it on my own it takes HIM living in me to make me a good person, who cares for others well being and genuinely wants the best for others and not be selfish.

There is only one who is true and good and that is God. I think it is just something that people say compareing to others here on earth. We have never met anyone in heaven....so all we have to really compare to is on earth but believe me I know your right no one on earth is truely good!
Good point !

Last night while having dinner a guy with his family greeted me, identified me, and thanked me profusely for helping him 26 years ago. I can't remember what I did, but he sure recalled it for me.
My family family members took it in their stride, as that is just one of the at least scores of almost similar encounters I've had.
I still consider myself a bad guy.
