It is best if the school installs the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack (free from Microsoft) on all their computers using Office 2003. This will allow Office 2003 to open Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 file formats.

Yest it will. Word 2007 has an option of saving/converting files from 1997/2003 Word. You just have to open the file as 2003 Word. Remember that if you write in 2007 and would like to open in 2003 you have to save your document as 2003 Word.

You may need to save it in the 2003 file format. Your school may not use a patch that allows 2007 files to be used on 2003 computers. Every place differs, but your best bet is to save it in the 2003 format just in case.

No, not unless the school (or the person who's on the receiving end) has done a tricky work-around that I recently saw in either the WSJ or local paper. However, you can save whatever Docs you want to send to the school in 2003 format (that's a "save as" choice) and things will be fine. MS Word 2007 is not back compatible.

Only if you save it as a 97-2003 Word Doc. If you save it as the default, no.

You can tell if you've saved it as a 2007 doc if it ends in .docx. When saving the file theres a drop down box below where you type the name of the file in. Change that drop down box to Word 97-2003.

Are you sure? We had '99 on our computer and couldn't open 2007. The only way I guess to find out is to try it.
