Why is the U.S. government being made into Israel's ***** when Jews make up 5% of the U.S. population? Someone explain.

The questions should have been, perhaps, "Why are Israel and America allies?" It is because Israel is the only democracy in the middle east. It is in the best interest of the USA to see to it that Israel exists and does well.
The US government is not being made in Israel's. We are allies and US does give aid to Israel because it is a democracy and due to anti-semitism, many countries will not help Israel.
Also, more aid is needed now because of muslim aggression and tourism is down so more help is needed. Many Americans support the terrorists (based on ignorance I think) and then complain when aid to Israel increases. I find that amazing.

America supports Israel because Israel is the only true democracy in the region. The two are great allies.
Would you be happier if the USA gave support to non democratic Islamic countries where women have no rights and non Muslims have no religious freedom?

Well it is becasue of two factors mainly.
1- The first being a converging and common interests, where Israel serves the American agenda in the ME while USA provides political cover and support to Israel. Remember that a governments first priority is to serve the interests of the country.
2- Internal factors since the Pro Israeli lobby in the states is extremely powerfull with virtual control of most financial institutions and Media. For a politician to secure his career he has to appease this lobby.
